Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

BNSF Copycat

UP always claims to be a much better and more efficient/profitable company than BNSF. Over the last year UP has been slowly copying many of BNSF operating practices while Implementing PSR. Even though BNSF doesn’t use PSR a common phrase you’ll hear from execs and upper management is “That’s how BNSF does it”. What’s the connection?

All the following are BNSF practices- Storage ATR locomotives. Mechanical going to front line supervisors instead of union. Engineering using system/district gangs instead of local. Contracting out of all Environmental programs. Cutting facility maintenance crafts to minimum. Throughout this year you will see the reduction of many “specialty” jobs within departments. Traveling and road mechanics, LEMT, LMMT in mechanical to regular shop craft employees. Senior/Tech positions in Signal/Telecom to maintainers or normal craft.

Vena just said that on the ARSA conf call. I’ve heard it from several upper management too.

If UP is copying anyone it is CSX. We got a bunch of H Harrison wannabe’s except they don’t have his guts.
