Thread regarding Cummins Inc. layoffs

Are the layoffs done?

Or is this going to continue next week?

Poster below me isn’t wrong...use the company as much it uses YOU .

For instance, if I get RIF’d, thanks CMI for paying to move my family and my education!

IDK...don't work for Cummins, nor do I pretend to. But from an outsider perspective it would seem wise to take full advantage of the benefits Cummins has to offer to their full time employees - tuition reimbursement, skilled trades training, etc (there is a lot there) - that way if and/or when the time comes Cummins has at least put you in a better place to succeed going forward. I'm probably speaking more from a shop floor employee viewpoint.

Yet, my guess is (only a guess) that most employees don't take advantage of these opportunities when they're sitting right in front of them. Probably the same folks who are in crisis mode when Cummins does what they do and shame on anyone, especially who reads this board, for being caught off guard. Every 3 to 4 years, correct??? I mean, true or not, you all have made that very clear. Why is anyone surprised?

Just my 2 nickels, not that it means a lot, but hopefully it's brought a little value to the conversation. Thanks for letting me share, folks!! :)

Since the company is not looking out for the employees, the employees and ex-employees, need to look out for each other.. Pay attention to the job boards like LinkedIn, The Ladders, Indeed, and any other one you can find. If you see something, go after it. If you aren't interested, share it with your co-workers. Cummins will cut you at any time, just to make the investors happy.. Cutting employees to save $2-300 million, while doing a stock buy-back for another $2 billion? This just jacks up EPS and makes investors feel better.. At the same time posting jobs for departments that have just been cut.. Look out for each other.. Set up coffee sessions with each other to review job opportunities elsewhere. Support each other with references and always offer an ear.. Cummins will not do it for you..

Does anyone know how this will affect technicians at the distributor locations? Rediculous how silent this whole deal has been. I would be surprised if people who luck out on this round don’t start leaving on their own terms. Who likes feeling disposable everyday of their working life?

Just check your building for any HR people who have full days booked in a single room. No more HR reservations should mean you're in the clear.

Maybe for this year. Another round will come in 3-4 years after they have hired a pile to replace all the higher paid senior employees they let go. If you will have 10+ years 3 to 4 years from now, you will be let go then regardless of your performance. So, either be a mediocre worker and hope you are passed over of start getting your resume and connections ready.

Why does everyone refer to this RIF as a layoff? It isn't, it's a mass FIRING! No need to sugarcoat it....layoff implies you can be "called back" or "re-hired". This isn't the case. Once you are FIRED from CMI, there is no going back.

In COM it is based on your function. Wherever it is done there have been internal communication done. So, no news means that they are still on hook.
