Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Total Meltdown n

Just wondering if anyone has seen an employee have a total meltdown on the job and what happened as the result. Management in my store has been hammering away at the Supervisors and Specialists and a select ASM basically making them the scapegoat for a lot of issues. My Supervisor who's a great guy and pretty well liked by the associates he tries really hard and does ok but he does have a very rough personal life and in my opinion does the best he can with what is dumped on him. He is closing tonight, we are preparing for a corporate visit and he has been fielding calls and complaints all night, we are extremely short staffed due to cuts and he has been running around trying to put out as many fires as possible. I could tell when I talked to him that he was really tapped out and was hanging on by a thread. I went by the office and I saw him in there with the ASM his face in his hands just sobbing, I think that he was finally broken I know my own brother was hospitalized when he had a nervous breakdown and I see the same thing with my supervisor, he left I asked the ASM what was going on and he told me that he’s giving him an hour and a half lunch to go “calm down and sort himself out” but I and several other associates feel really worried, He’s a awesome guy and no one wants to see him like this, but I know everyone has a breaking point and I think Lowe’s really pushed him to his. Has anyone else ever seen an employee just totally meltdown on the job? Any idea what to do to try and help him.

Hey 'Concerned', how is your supervisor doing? Have things evened out for him at all? Has he changed anything, or has anything about his situation changed for the better?

Agreed, but you have to take multiple approaches at the same time. I've reported an employer in the past to OSHA and they did absolutely nothing. No follow up with me and I doubt my employer was even spoken to much less punished.

I can relate. Covering two departments, over 60 IRPs, filling internet orders, helping customers during impact hours. Another associate said he would help with IRPs but after lunch he got busy with customers, still maybe 25 left. Manager told me I would have to do better and to not waste time looking in topstock, just mark it off the list. This was my last day. Managers telling associates to do job incorrectly and that I would have to work until IRPs were done because we are understaffed and nobody even cares.

Support him in any way you can. Pray for him (I am, too). He needs to be reminded of the truth, and to focus on it daily. His life depends on it.
He is worth SO MUCH MORE than any corporation could possibly give him. Ls will not continue forever...but this man's spirit is eternal. He cannot depend on Ls to protect his health, to acknowledge his worth, to give his life meaning and purpose, or even for his provision. He MUST depend on the goodness and faithfulness of GOD if he is to have any security whatsoever. This man may be in the fight of his life, for his life. (I've seen people I love fight–and be victorious in–similar battles. But it hurts like nothing else. And the losses are real.)
We are all in this struggle. Struggle is required to make our will stronger–the will to LIVE, to choose LIFE, to cling to JESUS. Nothing else will suffice. We must keep putting one foot in front of the other and encourage each other as we walk toward LIFE.
And yes, I hope he can take care of himself: good sleep, healthy food, good exercise. And I hope he finds a new job, one that respects and honors him. He clearly has 'heart'.

This is who we are working for now they do not care for your health, when you can get an exception for having a sick day you know it’s bad, earned sick days mean nothing now.
They will work you to death, they find any excuse to write you up, they sit in the LP office watching you for anything and you can never find an ASM on the floor, and trying to get help from them no chance they have made supervisors the scapegoats for the store

A couple of the ASMs at my store have a god complex. Walk around with their chests puffed out doing not a thing to help associates. Dead weight.

Reach out to gov agencies for ethics violations. File a class action lawsuit for hostile work environment.

If your store is preparing for a Corp visit, which may or may not happen, and the senior management of that are not present helping prepare the store then you should do what you can and let the chips fall where they may.

At my store we’ve had employees c-ap their pants because they can’t get to the rest room in time as we are so short on coverage that there is absolutely no one to cover for them. If someone calls off the whole store is screwed. Frequently head cashiers don’t get a meal period as they are too busy running around the store putting out fires.

Also at my store we have a cruel and sadistic ASM that sneaks around trying to catch employees doing something to write them up for. He will also take his time and allow a customer to brow beat an employee before showing up. His selective enforcement of Lowe’s policy is his weapon of choice. We do our best to avoid him and are in better spirits when he is off. It’s almost a joy to work when he is not present.

No matter where you are in a store, customers will see an employee walking another employee out of the store to get fresh air in order to calm down. What gets me is that all companies preach safety including Lowe's. Please correct me if I am wrong, our mental state is also part of our safety. What is being done to make sure that employees are not only physically safe but mentally safe? A 15 minute break depends on how much customer traffic you have in a store. Some days an employee is lucky if they get a lunch/dinner hour.

Black Friday when I came in, Cashier (male) sobbing very loudly & uncontrollably on bench right by self checkout. New Head cashier had no clue what to do, took awhile to get him to more private training area, but not way to do that without walking through store. NO WAY the customers didn't see it.

This truly s—s when you read a post like this. The problem is this happens in every company. All you can do is keep an eye on him or her. Even if you have to get the employee off the sales floor and bring him or her outside for some fresh air,do it. It does not matter if it is an ASM,specialist or a supervisor. Everybody is under a lot of pressure including a csa. We all are human. If the store is a little rough so be it. Your health comes FIRST.
