Thread regarding Cummins Inc. layoffs

Why not burn the bridge? When you accept the severance package, you agree to never attempt to hire back on at Cummins again. Napalm it! I let everyone I talk with in the industry know about their hiring and layoff practices.

Visa status isn't a factor in the decision at the low level of people making recommendations. And if you really look at the situation....those people that don't have H1Bs visa don't get stuck in another country AWAY from work for months at a time and still keep their job. Cummins does a pretty good job of catering to people with H1Bs. Americans can't work from home for months at a time. And to comment on the salaries...in my team the people with visas are the HIGHEST paid (then on top of that you have all the additional costs of the external companies that handle all their paperwork). In general Cummins just pays lower than other companies if you've stayed around too long.

They got rid of a lot of 3's well before the business went south last year. Thus, they're basically letting people go as a "business decision" that's not performance related. It could be how experienced you were, how expensive you would be to keep around, how much your manager does or doesn't want to work with you. They're not ranking any of the people they let go, no matter what they were ranked in 2018 or before.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Why should people boycott? Most people are not familiar with Cummins. DBU caters to other businesses not individuals. Layoffs happen everywhere.

In this day and age you hurt yourself more if you stay at a job too long. The longtimers 20+ years are the ones I feel bad for getting laid off because many will struggle to find a new job.

I was ranked a 1 and let go. Also, I had an H1B working for me with more education/experience than another worker with similar qualifications and he WAS being paid significantly lower than the other.

Any RIFF is not performance driven entirely. All divisions were required to cut a designated % of staff. It's fair to assume that these cuts will be lower performing folks within a group usually along with others whose jobs can be eliminated. If I worked in a group such as talent development or corporate responsibility I would have already updated my resume even if I was rated as a high performer.
Folks who are seen as a pain in the butt by their managers are always some of the first to go even if they are high performers. Those 2 traits are not mutually exclusive.

Project requirements and skill set..performances ignored

Cummins pays and spends more money for H1Bs because qualified American engineers don't want to work for Cummins.

For one last time, H1Bs ARE NOT UNDERPAID. There are strict federal laws that prevent companies from doing that. H1Bs are bound by some extremely strict federal laws. I can share links to support my claims. Please do your homework before posting stuff that isn’t true. Do not post it just because it is easy to do so and you see some more under-informed people doing that. I am sorry of this was rude but I have had enough of it. Let us not learn to hate each other while the company leaders grab popcorn and emailing c-appy videos of achievements from 2019 while laying off hundreds of people within hours. IT’S THEIR FAULT.

PS: At least same number of H1B employees as citizens have been laid off in this week if not more

They can give 3 to anyone for 2019 performance and get rid of the person. This is not really performance based. People who were rated low 2 or 3 for 2018 were let go last year.

I'm under the impression that only people ranked as lower 2 and 3's are being let go. If this isn't the case let me know because if your last ranking is those numbers then it doesn't matter what you had years ago even 2 years ago you can be gone.
