Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

What to say

Every day we have several customers come up to us and ask if we are closing. No one has addressed this issue and how to handle the answer that is the correct answer to the customers. We just say no and we are going through a huge renovation and restructuring.
You would think that someone at corporate pr would have the best wording for the poor store staff to recite to the customers.

@eaxc+13bwE0A3 Yeah, like emailing any of them will get you anything but placed on a PIP and marked for termination.

As for stores closing, I don't know which ones, it has changed slightly. As for associates, they seem to changing quicker then a dirty diaper.

It's so funny how employees portray corporate as being the bad guy. Do your job and read the communication, or, if it doesn't exist, do your due diligence and email your boss, dm, rm, hr, public relations if you feel so strongly to go on a public forum. It's just as hypocritical as you complaining about your customers going to Yelp google or better business bureau before going to the store about an experience. Have a great end of the year everyone!!

As well as they should panic... there particular store might not close so soon... Eventually, it will. The customers will know when they see the signs hanging on the doors and windows.

So many of you on here have a goal of creating panic in the stores. The stores that are closing are closing yes. But there is no word on another round. I’m sure there will be but until then just stop the panic. Customers aren’t asking IF your going out of business. They know. They see the list. You all make it out to be like they demand it. 95% don’t want us to close. Sure some want stupid deals and that will never change. We knew the list a long time ago. We knew our store wasn’t closing back in November. The next wave won’t be out till April or may and honestly they might slow down store closures because the CEO knows that corporate has been failing the stores. The marketing team, merchants, policy makers, IT. So many stores can return to being profitable. My DM said recently that they have too many stores that are running a fine line that is by no way their fault just victims of circumstances. The talk from him was that only seriously failing stores would be reviewed this year. There are too many tests out in stores that are successful that could help so many other stores. They need to get the ball rolling on them first before they focus on closing stores.

Ok all, follow the portal useless note and say NO with certainty. That will work. Dear lord lemming this does not work! We've being doing this already and it doesnt work. I've had many customers come thru my line, ask when we're closing and then get sad when I say we're not...because that means no 'going out of business' sale for them. That's all we are loved for now...our coupons sales discounts and also customers hope the big GOOB sales ahead. And dont try to shove portal bs at me...it's full of lies havent you been keeping track??

Where were you 3 months ago??? Did yoh not see the portal note that told us what to say? They wants us to say “NO (with certainty) we are not closing” because if you were not on that list you are safe. It’s that simple.

Our regular customers have already left for Walmart and Target, and they’re not coming back because while the media in our state reported for almost a year straight that all our stores were closing, corporate sat back and said nothing in response. And we know they saw the reporting. Instead we now have a new customer base, who roam the store window shopping and proclaiming that they’re waiting for the store closing sale to make their purchases. And still, nothing from corporate. At this point I don’t think anyone at our store thinks we’re going to be open end of the year, we just want corporate to stop lying to us.

You completely missed the point of the original post. Even in stores that are NOT closing as of yet, the question or comment from many customers on the daily is 'when are you closing?' or something similar. Corporate has not given any direction on how to respond to this. It gets freaking OLD dealing with this from customers over and over, especially when some customers say we're lying when we say we're not closing or tell us the company is just lying to us.
