Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

I wish you all the very best

I worked at GF for a considerably long time, but have moved on to better opportunities (not saying much, I know). From an outsider's perspective, GlobalFoundries has never met the expectation of the ultra-rich investors. The company has always performed very poorly in the eyes of the Emirati and this investment has never materialized even after pumping this artificial global competitor with $20B in oil money. Once you add in the fact that GF is not performing well overall in the semiconductor industry, the industry itself is experiencing a downturn, and the US economy has been doing exceptionally well for as long as Trump has been in office making investors chomping at the bit to sell, I would be very surprised how long the Malta site with GlobalFoundries's logo on the facade lasts.

However serious this coronavirus is, the government imposed regulations will inevitably dent manufacturing. I wish you all the best with the imminent lay-off that comes your way. I have no hate for my former coworkers, but to stay would be a disastrous situation given the impending doom that this company has been apart of for as long as the corporation has existed. GF has been on thin ice for the last two years and I believe the weight of the company's overhead from the bloated/useless/layoff-exempt middle-management, the enormous and increasing pressure from the stakeholders, and the unfortunate market circumstances due to the unforeseen virus will be the nail in the coffin. Good luck to all.

GF isn't going any where. They're tough. They're New York in-your-face tough. I left the company after a few torturous years and if there's one thing I learned, the need of their services outweighs the abysmal state of lower to middle management's competence and ethics as well as the abused child-like mentality of their technicians and engineers. The culture is like something out of Lord of the Flies. A middle school playground full of nasty, abused little New York bullies. Which probably explains the 33.3% attrition rate. There is one or two people I really care about still employed there and I wish them the best but when the owner Mubadala / Emirate of Abu Dhabi's oil money drys up who knows.

This whole thing is great news for me. I left a couple of months ago after getting my accounting degree. House prices are a bit inflated in 'Toga, and GF was always too shaky for the wife and I to consider purchasing while I was there. When GF powers down homes in the area should be much cheaper. To those still there good luck! You'll need it if you stay any longer.

Awwww! Don't go.....You are going to miss the spectacular IPO in 2023. With the major re-org only 6 months ago, our sales team are on a great offense path to bring us more business. Don't worry about coronavirus. It's not going to affect productivity as facilities are highly automated. It is going to save money as it will stop useless travel that mid-managers and up keep on taking, as well as save time spent on travel expense processing. It will also make 'Made in USA' big again. Future is nothing but bright for GF. HR: please pay me $50 for this nice post attempting to retain someone.

Are they still asking you to hang your germ infested COVID-19 face mask for reuse to save a buck?

It's all so ridiculous, but what else is new. They say stay home if you're sick but it will be held against you. And the door handle covers. What a joke.

GloFo is a political correctness/HR mgmt company thats supposed to be supported by a 3rd rate semiconductor fab. Would you expect any less in response to what's basically another flu? Get woke, go broke.

I have decided to look for another job. I don't think Global will survive this. My wife is a teacher about 15 years from retirement, so the decision to look and move was put off even though things have looked bad and worse for the past few years. Staying now would be dumb and I don't want to go back to EFK. I wish everyone good luck with what they choose.

I left last year, and immediately thought of my friends still at GF when the oil price war news broke. The sheiks will be even more desperate to unload GF's assets now, and since no one wanted Malta in good times, I can't see how anyone would want it in bad times. I believe the layoffs are imminent, and I wish everyone luck. I certainly wish my friends had left when there were more semiconductor jobs to be had because the pickings are likely to be slim when GF finally goes belly up.
