Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

can we be fired for refusing to serve a customer?

Had a customer in millwork today who was ordering a custom therma-tru door. She was coughing and hacking the entire time and not doing much to cover her mouth. After the 3rd time I got up and explained to her that I was going to try and find another person to complete her order.

Yes I am an older worker (58) and explained that to be safe I could no longer take the chance of spreading germs.

I was very polite the entire time of which she told my store manager who i eventually had come out to talk to her.

I will not go into the entire scenario, but was told after that i will be written up and placed on probation.

I calmly explained to him that I thought that would not be a prudent line of action by the store , Lowes or himself.

I went to lunch and spoke with my wife and we both came to the same conclusion. I was retired and did not need to work, but did so because I enjoyed working with my hands and having someplace to go five days a week.

I came back from Lunch, typed up a resignation letter, handed it to the manager and went home.

I am not going to say where the store is because I believe the solution was not better thought up because the store manager does not have any management skills or the ability to know how to get the best out of his employees. Unfortunately at Lowes, they are making decisions now with employing managers that will follow corporate lock, stock and barrel .

Management clueless. Had a similar problem with a customer involving insecticide. They seem to think a few wipes will solve Covid 19.

Good for you by taking control. Mgmt. protects Mgmt. by crisis. Not only stupid sick customers but employees as well. You shouldn’t have to be exposed to that lunacy. Lowe’s Mgmt. is spineless. They must be challenged.

Your mistake was to involve a manager.

The other day I had a customer on the phone asking me to go over the ingredients in several fertilizers. As I spoke with the customer it became clear that he was planning on using these products in a manner inconsistent with their intended use; aka backyard chemistry. When I asked the customer what he was planning on doing with these he became evasive. I politely ended the call.

When I returned from lunch an ASM came over and asked if I had spoken with a customer regarding fertilizer. I told the ASM that I had and was not going to assist the customer in harming himself or others by mixing together products that were not intended to be mixed. While I was at lunch the customer called in again.

Have a Lowe's safe day.

So today, I take a very rare break.

I stayed maybe 6-7 minutes. I'm the only red vest, there were 5 mst people.

Before I leave, I pull a tissue, blow my nose, then leave.

5 minutes later, the Pro supervisor asks me to step outside. He tells me that people in the break room went to the store manager saying I was coughing everywhere and sneezing. Mind you, I lightry blew my nose. Had no idea anyone knew, as no one even said hi to me.

The super says "be prepared, they are calling an 800 number and you'll probably be sent home.

There's a squeal line to report people that blow their nose????

Dude, I got around 145 sick hours, make the call.... make my day....

lowes is so far behind on all of this right now and theyll end up suffering the consequences

walmart used this virus as great PR for themselves while at the same time admitting that this situation will affect every employee in a unique way and right now only you could decide whats best for you!

Lowe’s response will vary based on an employee’s perceived value to the store. If you’re a producer they are going to sweep this under the rug. If they think that the employee can be easily replaced they will be.

We had a specialist that would make suggestive remarks to female employees. Because he was a producer this was allowed to go on for years. They even transferred him to another store and it continued until that store had a female manager. She fired him.

You should honestly report it to any media outlet. They would love that story and as soon as it ran, Lowe’s would immediately fire the store manager and issue an apology. It’s happened before.

Walmart deploys new emergency leave policy after Kentucky associate tests positive for coronavirus

A memo sent to employees from Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner, Sam’s Club CEO Kath McLay and Chief People Officer Donna Morris details the new COVID-19 leave policies.

The retailer also said it has “reinforced our cleaning and sanitizing protocol, and, with the support and encouragement of the state government, the [Kentucky] store remains open.”

“We all know we are in unprecedented times,” Adam Stavisky, senior vice president of Walmart U.S. benefits, told CNBC. “Walmart is looking to see how we can best support our associates ... we are implementing first of our kind benefits for associates.”

Grow some balls call them out. I could care less about your story more interested in knowing stores to stay away from.
