We are out of several types of Sherwin Williams paint bases at my store, nothing real important just eggshell and satin base A. Up in top stock, where customers can see, we have three pallets of paint including what we need. They are tagged for a Spring Black Friday event and we can't get them until March 16. As I said they are stored in top stock where customers can see them. A customer pointed this out. I asked an AMS if we could get them down; she said no, they are for Spring Black Friday. Customer left without purchasing paint.

Ha Ha, I had the same thing in top stock at my store.
I said BS and brought it all down. Showcase Sat A
If I have it and the customer wants it, they're going to get it.
Pretty simple, ask an ASM?! what are you kidding me!
Maybe if Lowe's didn't offer seventeen lines of paint this would be significantly less of an issue. It was actually less complicated when we sold three different brands.
We already get the blame for not selling the Infinity line of paint.
Customer: I'm selling my house and my realtor suggested I paint my garage so I'm looking for something cheap.
Associate: We have several lines of paint you can use. In your case I'd suggest the Simplicity.
Manager: Infinity is the way to go for you! One coat coverage means you can just paint over the dirt and grime!
Customer: It's really more than I wanted to spend.
Manager: Look at it this way; you're making an investment in your home.
Customer: I'm selling my home.
Manager: Alrighty then, I can't help customers since I need to be available to help customers, Bob here can mix you up some. (walks away with tail between legs that he didn't sell Infinity).
Customer: I'll take what you suggested, he really didn't understand what I wanted.
Associate: Yes sir, do you need any rollers, brushes, or painting accessories?
Next time ask your manager “every time you see your big nose in the mirror do you have the urge to wash your hands without soap?”
oh...and when the customer complains about it to corporate and fingers corporate for the issue...youll get the blame for not turning them over to some product they dont want.
makes no sense but this is how the big shots always operate. theyll screw you out of the day to day sales in order for their plans to appear successful. in this case theyll withhold product so spring black friday is a big success and theyll then point to their genius of this event when they do their quarterly call to shareholders.
meanwhile customers want to buy product today for projects they have today...and are willing to pay more for it!
If it is an every day stock item I don't even ask when that happens. Just take care of the customer in front of you. Now I remember when we would have "in and out" items that said hold for some specific event, those are different. Sometimes our ads will say minimum of "X" per store so you really can't sell those or risk complaints of false advertising. At our store we try to store items like those out of customer view.
The New Lowes, ladies and gentlemen. The New Lowes. Say, its a lot like the Old Sears, don't ya think?
Makes no sense
