How about the Merchandisers?

SMs can order, predict ahead with advice from still-in-place DMs...soooooo why in the hell do we need Dist and Reg merchandise mgrs who really just sit in the office, snack all day, do personal business on the clock, and maybe hit the floor if they feel like it. They clearly have not made a significant difference in this company future so why WHY are they kept?

No, I've never been a DMM. I have been an SM. Have been in a couple of other support roles. As with any position, you see good and bad. Maybe your anger and bitterness explains why you haven't been considered for promotion. I'm sure you're great with customers, though. Maybe try a Snickers.

Sounds like a DMM trying to justify their job. Computers can do your job now so you are obsolete on a District or even Regional level. Give it to Corporate whoever the hell is left there. Will decisions be perfect in this? No. It will go the way of every other branch of this company LP, HR, CS...lost. No job in this company at any Dist or Reg should be 75% sit on your a– in the office. We all see you spend at least half of that time doing personal business, talking or texting, eating, most of all B–chING about everyone you work for and with. You can try to justify your wasted payroll all you want but all those coworkers around you on every level know your clock is finally ticking. And good luck getting a decent reference from anyone who ever worked with you.

Just because you have a bad one doesn't mean the position is a waste. Corporate often gives very bad direction to stores. They send merchandise that doesn't fit. They don't send merchandise that IS supposed to be there. They give merchandising direction that simply does not work. SMs are stretched so thin right now that they barely have time to deal with the days call-outs, cleaning the rest rooms and making sure that someone remembers to unlock the doors that they don't have time to make any merchandising decisions. The DM's, with their new lives as full-time CS managers, don't have the time either. So who do you ask when the direction is unclear? Your DMM. Their job is supposed to be 75% office work...that is why most went from 7 or 8 stores to 18 - 30 over the past few years. Just because someone is working at a desk instead of humping freight doesn't mean they aren't working. If it makes you feel better, I'm sure the consultants will let them all go within a year, anyway.
