HR Frustrations

My family member is working in a temporary position for Macy's and I just viewed their paycheck. He is mistakenly having City of Cincinnati taxes withheld from his check. He does not live in the city of Cincinnati, nor is the store he is working at located in the city of Cincinnati tax district. The store is in a suburb.

He did an online chat with an HR person. The HR person told him to contact IRS.gov or his financial advisor. How ridiculous! Macy's is incorrectly withholding tax money from his paycheck, and he is supposed to contact the IRS or his financial advisor?? How about STOP withholding the tax money AND refund the money that was mistakenly taken out??

I remember this happened to everyone at this store two years ago, and it took a month to get resolved.

He could not submit a case through the HR website either. It gave him an error message. So frustrating.

I'm not surprised. I lived in northern Kentucky and Macy's had been taking out Kentucky and Ohio tax and everything was royally screwed up. It's not the address that's the problem, it's how they are taxing him. Keep pushing and open up another case. Your family member will have to file with the city of Cincinnati at the end of 2020 to get a refund since they don't owe Cincy anything.

Company rep can't change your personal information or tax options. You have to log in and do so. Check with the post office. IE some zip codes are different than the city you live. I pay Dayton taxes, my zip technically is Middletown

Whomever set up his payroll, or the payroll service did not get his taxing district correct.

And the HR online tells him to contact the IRS.gov site or contact his financial advisor? And you people call him lazy??

Lol

13IOS1hQ - His address is correct. He lives 15 miles away from downtown Cincinnati, and even though he has a Cincinnati zip code, it does NOT mean that he lives in the taxing district of the City of Cincinnati.

This is the case with a lot of cities. You might have a Denver, CO zip code, but you might live outside of the taxing district of the City of Denver.

AST isn't lazy in every store. But that's beside the point. The point is that the lazy associate is responsible for his own address.

No, he doesn't need the AST to check his address. He needs to go into MyHr himself and check his own address.

He needs to have the AST recheck the address that was keyed into the PeopleTools system when he was hired. Do that before anything else.
