Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Let’s play count the consultants...

How many teams of consultants do we have? And where? Let’s make a list. I’ll go first...

D2D- McKinsey
Functional transformation- BCG
Upstream evolution-BCG
Imagine IT- BCG
Downstream strategy- Deloitte

Where else?

IT is not and will never be our area of expertise. why do we continue to allocate resources, cost and time on digital initatives, consultants developing applications, company personnel who lack new technology skills etc? We are missing a big opportunitry in the technology space to outsource all of this to a Microsoft etc? IT in Chevron is complete chaos all the time.

their is a belief by upper management that if managers allocate consultants to their project it places managers in the high performer category when essentially it is the opposite. the simple fact is it is much easier to hire consultants then to utilize our chevron employees. its said that chevron prides itself on hiring the best of the best. if this were true we wouldn't relay on consulting companies to fix chevron. We are the best at teaching/training hundreds of consultants how we operate each year so that they can take their learnings and make more money elsewhere.

Consultants these days mainly serve the purpose of being buffers and henchmen for company management to distance themselves from direct involvement in the nasty work of downsizing personnel.

Chevron “management” have always used consultants to make the difficult decisions. If it all ends well, they take 100% credit. If it ends badly, they place 100% of blame on the consultants. The kicker is that they get away with it every time. Then, after every transformation/reorg/layoff/downsizing/right-sizing/... they give themselves pay raises, increased bonuses and more LTI stock for having to “manage” through such hard times.

Once they started calling themselves “leaders”, they did not lead or manage.

Is there a place on this site where they discuss layoff concerns and things related to layoffs? I heard somewhere that there was. thanks.

There is basically one consultant for every core member of the transformation teams. Consultants often outnumbers the employees in meetings. It would be hilarious if it wen’t so sad.
