Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Predictions

A wise person once said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for a different outcome. The only thing more irritating than people walking around this office claiming to have found a safe haven in special projects are the claims being made on project objectives. The number of promises and favors that must have been called in to place many of these people is only the tip of the ice burg. They seem to forget that it took many years to simply move applications between two data centres and there was a steady stream of issues. The same pattern has held true for as long as I can remember. Does anyone even remember any large project that was delivered successfully? Now significantly larger and more complex projects are being planned and most of the expertise and experience has been kicked to the curb. So what has changed? Good luck with that. You cannot curb the risks of an impaired bus driver by changing the people riding the bus.

Even complete incompetent resources who were sleeping for years literally and paid for doing so are on special projects.

Hmmmm. I wonder if they will ask everyone to voluntarily resign and then participate on projects as contractors? Just think of the severance they would save. Just saying :-)

Many people on the big project are thankful to still be working. They didn’t make the unrealistic timeline promises either. If the promises of leadership fail and the project takes longer these people might get to extend their employment a little longer too and that’s a benefit to them. In this new environment where there is no corporate loyalty to knowledgeable and hard working employees these people are probably relieved for landing in a project where they extended their employment a little longer. All in the personal interest of building that pension. Look out for number one. At the worst they are released in the next couple of years but that’s a better deal than a lot of people got last year.
