Just learned my sales manager was let go and store manager was moved. As I watch the stock turn to junk stock ( hit the ice berg ) and I just learned Victoria secrets got bought out by a Equity firm. And forever 21 was sold to Simon malls. , Pier 1 is bankrupt, Barney’s nyc is gone , way fair just laid off 550 workers. And skill won’t keep your job. So why even try.? It’s not only the Macy’s ship sinking it’s the mall and other retailers.
So you can blame online shopping. But that’s only one piece of the Cheaper price/convenience model. So if tech isn’t saving it. Then what can ? Let’s take bottle water you drink it. It’s gone you recycle it. You buy Macy’s c-ap. It gets cheaper a month later. You wear it for a year throw it out. It leaves a carbon foot print for 100 years. So where’s everyone gonna go when the malls get boarded up ? I also think car sales man jobs will disappear. So what is next for jobs ? We are watching the boat sink. No life rafts. No future. So why try ?

For the writer that thinks that we should live in a socialist society and "live off of the wealth that we have worked hard to accumulate." First, have you ever been to a socialist country? I have, and I can tell you that there is no wealth sharing. The government controls every aspect of your life. There is little to buy and what is available is poorly made. There is a tremendous amount of black-market trading. Hard work is not rewarded. Life is hard. I will choose Capitalism with all of the inherent flaws every day because if you don't like the way your current employer operates you have the choice to go elsewhere or to be innovative and start your own business. Nothing is free in life and if it were you would rue the day that you ran out of other people's money.

capitalism has existed long enough to amass enough wealth overall for the lives of common people to be better than ever. what's the point for capitalism to continue? it's time for it to end and for us to live in a socialist society where we live off the wealth that we have worked hard to accumulate. that was perhaps the whole goal of capitalism. instead of that happening, all the wealth is being concentrated at the top 0.1%
Here's the secret: Things change. The people that have the vision to see this are at the bottom of the food chain: salespeople, planners, buyers. Their thoughts need to percolate up the food chain to allow for ingenuity, When technology, megadata obsession etc. and lockstep dictates from on high become the reason to get up in the morning there will be failure. Management's job is to create an encouraging framework.
And the robots will rise thanks to AI take all our jobs then eventually decide to k–l us all.
