Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Straight UP Truth?????

So we have the latest version of the straightup glass palace viewpoint posted for all to see just how disconnected they really are from reality, as someone stated on another post they admitted they are doing this to be transparent after they got all the bad comments from the employee surveys as if they were shocked that there was such a vast disconnect. So to fix the situation the upper management decides hey guys and gals let’s open up a forum on the company website where we can post articles and leave the comments open so the employees can post responses and the we can “read” them and respond as well as waste money on home mailing as if the employees are actually reading them (some do just to see what other bs they are trying to sell). Then let’s say everyone is gaining from this unified2020 plan......which surprise is false. Watching the video they made to explain some of the improvements that have been made since...I’m sorry taking training from 17 weeks to 8 weeks is not more effective or efficient, it is more dangerous.... so instead of training someone properly let’s slap them through and then let them out on a job and hope that the learned how to do it. They let those working closer to the issues handle them...not really people reporting issues with locomotives and cars that need to be addressed but those issues are ignored and they send the locomotives or cars back out anyway that’s not solving the issues thats ignoring it and hoping it works just a bit longer (yes I realize if an issue is big enough they don’t let it go but eventually even small issues turn into big ones at inopportune moments). They say they are listening to communities obviously not there have been tons of news stories done on the crossing issues caused by the longer trains. How they are bringing in new business to communities.. thing is they try to tell those new businesses how to run their business. I could care less about what the investors think at the end of the day single time investment. And the customers aren’t happy businesses are moving to trucks and those that are still with us are there until they can figure out how to have their product moved by someone else. So folks let’s wait and see just what new StraightUP topics they bring out in the next few weeks that they think are so important that they can ignore reality just a bit longer for that stock to crest and split.

"I’m going to start bringing a bowl of popcorn to work to watch the show lol. "

I have been eating popcorn for lunch and enjoying the sh1tsh0w for a while now. Welcome to the club, it is unbelievably entertaining watching people scramble and panic thinking that what they do will somehow change the outcome.

I also am 3rd generation I know exactly what I signed up for yea I knew there could be furloughs but not to this extent. I knew I was only a number but I was a number that had a job in a department (mechanical) that was somewhat stable which now isn’t stable at all. At the end of the day there was a sense of pride that you had a job that everyone wanted, now everyone hears you work for this company and they ask how much longer you think you’ll have a job and what you think you’re going to do next if you get cut off. The morale was good and even though you might have worked 2nd or 3rd shift it wasn’t a horrible thing, now morale is so horrible you can literally feel the despair and discontent when you walk in the door on every shift. I went through the crash of 08 which was bad but nowhere near this bad, and no one that I know of signed on to work in such a toxic climate that we are now engulfed in because of PSR and the current crop of upper managements shareholders first ideology. Show this new straightup column to anyone that’s retired from this company and see what they say.

All these UP apologists on here talking it’s not UP’s responsibility to do anything. Gimme a break the whole company was founded with free land from the government. Quit acting like they have no responsibility to be responsible citizens or care about any of their employees. When they run the company into the ground they’ll be begging the taxpayers for a bailout. id–ts like you are the reason UP has the reputation it does.

Rumor from insiders is the OR is 60.2. With carloads down YOY where are they going to get the extra 5% they have been pushing for since 2018. You can only close so many hump yards and offer so many vacation buyouts. PSR is all about streamline and cut costs. Not get more business - hence why they laid off all the Bus Development Managers in 10/2018. I was fourth generation. I always knew there was a chance and knew what i was getting into. But this isn't anything like the old days. Those days ended in 2012. Railroading used to be challenging and fun. Then it became an exercise in "Do your best you can't control what's going to happen so don't worry about it".

What's sad is that instead of being grown up and adults, most of you are crybabies. When we hired on the railroad, the chances of furloughs are always there. I'm a 3rd generation railroader. I knew what could happen. For all of you dumb–ses who actually thought this Company cares about you and your family, you are getting what you deserve. I'm not defending the Company, but I knew that their profits are bottom line. We are nothing but a number, hence your employee number. The railroad industry has been this way since it was created. Become men. Stop complaining, either quit or go elsewhere. If you're furloughed find another job. Remember, it's not their responsibility to provide for your family, it yours only.

Only managers go to Omaha like that. As new trainees they have class there. Drink the yellow koolaid and learn how UP is the most professional company you’ll ever work for. 🤮

I always speak my mind on the comments every time they post one of their useless articles. So far I haven't had a talking to by the management team. And my attitude is I don't care anymore. If I get fired I'd probably stop at the store to pick up some steaks and beer and enjoy an evening at home with the family. Don't care at all. On another note, I hired out 8 years ago and I've never known anyone to go to Omaha for their 17 weeks of training. I guess that's just how out of touch these people are.
