Thread regarding Morgan Stanley layoffs

Who else got a donut?

As expected, my 2019 bonus was a whopping $0. I expected this given that im "at risk" but still hoped i might get some token amount. People also at risk - did you get donutted too, or am i just a lemon?

I got a donut (0 in bonus) working as I.T. fulltime with Morgan Stanley last year, before getting laid off just a few months afterwards. In the, the local started mass hiring consultatnts / fresh grad hires with more connections . My direct supervisor manager was laid off about 2 months earlier by a even more vindicate & selfish manager over a minor spat with his PRIVATE comments in his facebook page.
Lesson learned: NEVER trust any Morgan Stanley management, they are full of lies and deceit and empty promises and non-transparent opaqueness back stabs. Better yet, skip this horrible firm altogether for a better firm.
Friendly advice: If you get a donut, you should jump ship and seek other opportunities with other firms ASAP before its too late and you get screwed job-wise. As company loyalty in Morgan Stanley is worth ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the evil rich fatcats top brass in charge.

No longer "at risk" of redundancy... now just redundant!

Sorry to hear about the Donuts - I got donuts in 2009 & 2010 but was explicitly told - 'there is no message in this, there just isn't any money to go around'. So, after hearing that earnings this year were stellar, I can understand how people feel. But, if you've been there for a while (>10 years), don't leave anything on the table and quit unless a new opportunity would cover any severance and then some. I heard many people were down 5%-10%. Good Luck!

I don't think there's anything major going to happen in March(heard from some reliable folks)

That’s interesting. I wonder if it’s connected to whatever’s supposedly coming in March.

@6llj+138BqfXm No - I'm mid level and had no more warning than anyone else. What I mean by at risk is that I've been told that my role is being considered for redundancy, but that officially no decision has been taken until my consultation period ends. Of course, they are going through the motions because, in my region, they legally have to. Officially the firm has not yet decided whether to make me redundant or not... officially, although we all know in reality that they have already decided to do so. Even if they decided not to make me redundant (1% chance i reckon), i wouldn't want to stay having been treated badly in a number of ways over a number of years. Sorry for any confusion!

@much poorer than i thought id be by now

So you are high level and your boss actually talk to you before about the pending layoffs? however, for some reason, they did not cut you during the last round?

@3kjm+138BqfXm - by "at risk" I mean that I'm in the redundancy pool, going through the consultation period, and that it's effectively certain my role is redundant but, officially, a decision hasn't been made.

"Of course they will cut this year. Of course." - is it all rumors that you have heard or you are certain?

I had that situation . Got a donut and moved to a competitor in the middle of the year. I am sure that would have kicked me out if I had persisted .

Seems plenty of people got nothing more than a token "be thankful you still have a job". They're saying now that there won't be any more major layoffs in 2020 (at least in tech), but likely trying to encourage people to quit instead to cut numbers.
