No one cares! Demise of any retail company! Get over it! Go look somewhere else for trouble.
The demise of retail stores is HUGE news, and each store has some common reasons and some unique. To say let's just ignore this little Macy's snafu because it's happening to everyone just doesn't make sense. Here's an article in the New York Times last week about the poor employees at Barney's, for example:
Barneys Workers Feel Used as They March Store Toward Death
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/16/business/barneys-new-york-employees-severance.html
In response to post below. Macy's laying off employees is not unique news. Many retail businesses are doing the same.
Nor are disgruntled employees who lost their jobs, through no fault of their own. I suggest that this reporter look for more exciting news worth reporting.
A couple of comments about the other comments:
- The email address (just do a search to see for yourself) is for Mary Hanbury, who is indeed a Business Insider writer.
- Who is the dumb dumb asking this writer to close the SF office? How could you possibly think she has any role in that?
- If you no longer work for Macy's, you don't need to worry about the policy of not talking to the press. What are they going to do, fire your already left behind?
- MST folks, you're always on here complaining about what a bum rap you got. Why not let everyone know?
- If you don't tell your story, who will? Macy's?
Please shut down Macys.com in 680 Folsom San Francisco ASAP – the huge cost footprint of presence for this low tech mecca is not justified in anyway you slice it.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is 2020. Retail will change much faster in the next 10 years than it has in the last 30 years. Macy's is making budget cuts to survive. If it was your company or household, you would do the same. For those of you tenured employees it is a sad realization. I know, I am one of you. You can make the decision to move on or ride the wave. Nothing any of us can do will change this. We can all stick together embrace the changes and hope for the best for our Company.
I’ll give you a lead. Google Macy’s stocks and keep watching it. You will notice it’s a lot of inside trading. 2nd. Look at the layoffs coming. And all the chatter on the boards here. Then look at closing stores. Then contact Simon malls to see how bad it’s getting. Then walk the mall and see how many stores are closing. Then look up drone and robot technology. I think you can see the writing in the wall
Someone call him. He’s sad and lonely.
Behind all these new age "innovations" macy's is OLD SCHOOL and will take any one of us out at any given moment. What part of that do you not understand.
Didn't we go through this already?
