Thread regarding Morgan Stanley layoffs

Next round in January or March?

Some people are saying we can expect the next round in January and some seem convinced we are safe until March. Is there any way to find out for sure which of these is right?

Neither of them is good, of course, but March option would at least give us some time to regroup and be better prepared for what's to come, so I'm hoping for that.

Yes, you are giving them too much credit.

I work for Internal Audit where I believe it is the last place to cut. In May 2019, the new head of IAD dramatically fired two very senior MDs. Both of them have been working with the firm for over 10 years. After the firing was done, the new head told everyone that there will not be anymore firing this year.

Guess what - We have another 10%+ cut this week from all levels. Many of them are very decent employees and, I believe, have their own family to support. I am a survivor in this storm but will not believe any words from this management. Total BS.

You are an id–t if you still believe them. Me? I am preparing to jump ship asap. Better safe than sorry.

if they are going to happen, i think its march - closer to end of quarter. Presumably, they expect a lot of resignations once comp is done. Whilst its possible its january (prior to comp), then this would imply too much of a traffic jam for getting rid of people prior to Xmas.

Who knows.

"I'd be pretty surprised if either was true, honestly. Teams are already so demoralized by the cuts, I can't believe they'd delay another round. If you're going to be cut, I think it would have happened already or will happen this week. Then again, maybe I'm giving management too much credit. In either case, I wish you better luck than I had. All the best. "

Yes you are giving them too much credit. What makes you think like that? All MS cares about is numbers. Someone high up already openly and publicly said during a town hall in Aug. 2019 about 25% cuts in NYC. You think NYC is down by 25%?
I am not blaming MS or anybody. I am just saying that more cuts are coming. Thinking it's done is simply gullible.
