Accrued but unused vacation days?

I was let go yesterday ( VP, tech in NY ). Was kind of expecting this since the august townhall mentioned 25% cut in NY. It may be 2% off overall but is mostly NY-centric.

Its sad but not the worst given the place is becoming a sweatshop anyway.

I was told that Morgan does not pay for the accrued but unused vacation days .

Has anyone had a different experience or any exceptions to this?

Only about seven states have laws on the books stating that companies have to pay for unused acccrued vacation time. Illinois is one, I don't know about New York. Make sure if you do work in one of those states that the vacation time is already accrued. If not, you won't get paid for that time.

During the separation discussion , I was told to call the HR helpline and discuss the issue of unused vacation . I don’t expect much but just wanted to know if there’s a way I can get paid for the unused vacation and comp off days that is done at the group level

Not only I had vacation time in December , I worked many weekends as that was the rule in our group set by the MD . In lieu of working 12 hours on weekend , we could potentially take a comp off day. I have 10 sick days pending which I could have taken any time in future . I also had 8 days of vacation time left . Anyone knows what I can do ?

@1fzk - Easy - I did it too - scheduled to take days around XMAS/NY time - ended up getting many more days off than I bargained for, after 14 years.

That is accurate, how petty of Morgan Stanley to not pay for vacation days remaining that were already accrued/earned.
