Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Lowe’s can’t complete

Buying high end appliance package; fridge, oven, dishwasher, microwave Lowe’s can’t get it for 6 to 8 weeks.

Best Buy has them in stock.

Let me lead off by saying that I am a Lowe's appliance specialist and have been one for many years. While I have been very critical (in several other thelayoff.com threads) as to how some recent changes have impacted appliance sales, I can say unequivocally that there are two sides to this story. In many cases consumers want immediate gratification but also don't want to pay more then absolutely necessary for the product. Retailers have to play the balancing act of trying to predict what those consumers will be requesting and if possible stocking those items. With appliances there are simply too many possibilities (it's well into the thousands) and no retailer would remain profitable and/or could maintain low pricing if they attempted to "stock" every conceivable possibility. In addition, many of the appliance manufactures are battling their own "out of stocks" which then causes purchase orders to the retailers to be delayed. It's a complex supply chain and is as fragile as it's weakest link.

Over the years I have had MANY customers order appliances from Lowe's that have canceled overdue and/or problematic orders from our competition. And not to rain on your parade but just because they "say" you will have it by a certain date doesn't mean that you actually will. If your in a hurry then don't order a Special Order Sale (SOS) item. Stick with stock (i.e., physically in store) and Special Order Express (SOE, i.e., warehouse item). All SOS items are dependent on the vendors hitting their target dates. Anyone that tells you otherwise is either a fool or an id–t. I have been around long enough and have seen certain vendors approve your order, verify that it was valid via phone confirmation, only to have them cancel it weeks or months later when they now say that the model has been discontinued.

If the product your requesting is classified in our system as a stock or SOE item and it is taking weeks on end to arrive then you have a valid complaint. Bottom line, you have free choice to spend your money wherever you like but you might just discover that the competition does not have nearly as forgiving appliance return policy should you change your mind and/or have issues post sale.

This is the kind of post I agree with. Lowe's is bad for many reasons; this is one of them.

I ordered a microwave weeks ago... and it has still yet to arrive at the store. They sell 5hit that is not in stock store or warehouse.

This is the kind of post I hate. Lowe's is bad for many reasons; this is not one of them.

I mean they can’t carry every single option in every single brand in stock. Some stuff has to be special order in which case the wait time is on the vendors. It’s also the busiest appliance time of the year so yeah there’s delays on stuff. But let’s just go ahead and say it’s Lowe’s fault because we don’t like them and it’s easier to blame it all on the company.
