Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

IT folks - end of year approaching

The end of 2019 brings some questions.

  • will the Naresh Shanker commitment to be out of the Webster data center by end of 2019 be met?
  • will all Webster employees know where they are going to be by end of 2019?
  • will the movement to Cary finally be made public or must we rely on layoffs.com for insight?

If you take a look at some of the postings, they were either written by recruiters with no sense of what the company wants, or by a hiring manager with no clue what their needs are. I think the latter, and it speaks to the craziness of relocating the managers of this ilk to Cary. Basically perpetuating the problem. Some of these postings are hilarious and is a likely contributing factor to the low hiring rate. In addition to items the previous commenter stated.

Hiring is going VERY slow. Very few posting for the open jobs, so it's not even a matter of compensation. Competition for talent is fierce there and Xerox name does not fare well against others in the area. At the current pace, it will take years to hire 600.

Also hearing the buildout is not going to be done until at least mid-year.

I've heard through the hallways that the transition to RTP is not going well. Can anyone confirm or deny or offer additional details?

The only XDX positions moving to RTP are technical SME or Mgmt. That's why there aren't many moving.

The actual "hands on keyboards" will be hired in RTP, trained and supervised by the SME's and initially managed by the mgmt staff that goes.

Once the SME's have passed along a sufficient amount of their technical knowledge they'll either be asked to go back to a "hands on keyboard" developer or BSA position, or be let go.

Look at what's happening everywhere else in the company with HCL. Why would you think XDX isn't doing the exact same thing with cheaper RTP resources? And I would not be surprised if RTP ends up being 80% staffed by HCL onshore resources.

They aren't moving the operations to RTP for the scenery and warmer weather. They're doing it to save money.

  1. Will it even be started by end of 2019? I imagine they are discovering the business case is not very good, given the massive lift of transitioning to cloud/colo, transient bubble (Webster and Cloud) while it's being moved, etc.
  2. There is zero intent by HR to inform Webster XDX folks anything formally re RTP
  3. Only a very small number are relocating to RTP. The rest (with few exceptions) will hit the bricks.

It will be interesting to see how they will staff 600 people down there. My understanding is recruiting is progressing at a glacial pace.

  • data center will not be moved by end of 2019
  • there are no indications that "all webster employees" will move, I don't know where you got that from

I heard that not only did they quietly jack off on that communicated directive, but they also are now saying “we never said cloud was the alternative”. Seriously. How many wasted man months was that? What’s the new strategy, co-lo? What were all the cloud-first slide decks, the Audit firm engagements, the underground projects, the app migration “progress”? SMH. Good questions. The answers reveal the s show within.
