Those who gave Lawton that job are responsible. They knew what he was and what he would do and that's what was wanted from a leader(s) who has enjoyed doing this for years and only likes those around him be sycophants.
When most of us go work each day we want to create strategies, problem solve, work as a team and achieve success and growth. Can you imagine getting up each morning and delight in making things scary and worse for both your employees and your customers?

I think Yasir was forced out Hal's first year. I remember the farewell video with Hal and Yasir. Yasir looked like he was ready to punch out Hal. Walked out of the camera range and left Hal standing there looking like the id–t he is. They had just toured our Growth 50 door in Lynnwood Wa. Hal, Yasir and RB. I don't think Yasir saw it coming. Hal was paving the way for his Home Depot buddies.
Jeff if you are smart you will get RB Harrison back!
Hal did not respect the brains or talent within the company. He was appalled that we spoke out and questioned some of his "genius " ideas. It appears no one at Home Depot had the guts to question him. Best of luck to you Hal, hopefully you learned a lesson.
Just have to find a way to get rid of Jeff and Paula now. They are the real clowns of the circus act.
Hal bailed because he always had a short term mentality. He tried to turn Macys into Home Depot and he was awful at it. Jeff was given a bad situation and then force fed Hal. Hal did not appreciate the most important thing the customer. Besides he always looked sloppy when he came to our store. Like a ten year old wearing Dads suit.
He bailed cause he knows it’s doomed. He’s the president. He knows the numbers. He knows the future. He knows what’s coming in January. It’s over.
Hal Lawton's move to Tractor Supply was announced in the news BEFORE senior leadership at Macy's was even aware that he was leaving. There was a clearly hastily thrown together announcement today to tell Macy's leaders and colleagues AFTER they had already ready about Hal's new position at Tractor Supply on the Internet.
Not a reflection of how leadership changes at this level are typically handled or announced at a company of this size. What is happening with our senior leadership? So many open jobs and people being placed into temp roles in preparation for what seems likely to be huge restructuring and downsizing in in January.
If senior leadership is so broken that even the president of the company is interviewing in secret and not taking the normal steps to plan and communicate his transition across the organization, what terrors do next years cuts hold for the rest of us a Macy's.
Sorry, but I'm not getting what point @12mT2SCR-1zhh is trying to make posting about Yasir. He resigned almost two years ago. What's the connection?
Despite concerns about tariffs hurting American farmers. Tractor Supply has been a top retailer for the past few years.
The company, which has more than 1,800 stores across the country, as well as the specialty pet store chain Petsense, is expected to post revenue of nearly $9 billion in 2020, an annual increase of about 7%. Tractor Supply's earnings per share are expected to climb at an average annual rate of nearly 12% for the next five years, according to analyst estimates tracked by Refinitiv.
Contrast that with struggling Macy's, which has been forced to close stores as more shoppers shun department stores and suburban shopping malls in favor of Amazon (AMZN), Walmart (WMT) and Target (TGT) – both online and in their physical stores. Macy's sales are expected to dip slightly next year while profits are expected to slide about 20% a year for the next few years, according to Refinitiv.
