To be blunt. Our technology leadership is antiquated. risk averse and lacks technical fluency. They are a bunch of talking heads returning from industry conferences. Nothing more.
Winning in any environment sounds good and all but it's not going to happen with these dinosaurs at the reigns. We do not understand how to strategically drive or leverage innovation nor how to drive our transformation vision ahead. We're wasting time and bleeding money.

Reading all of these replies at my office is making me tired. Time for a workplace break. About 10 minutes will do fine.
Had an IT manager at Chevron who's big plan for digital transformation was Virtual Reality. It was almost exactly like watching a real life episode of Silicon Valley. All show and absolutely no business value.
Of course the field will be resistant to change. That's natural in every industry everywhere. That being said it's LEADERSHIP's responsibility to steer the ship in the right strategic direction that will deploy solutions that generate a business value. We're good at telling stories - we're not good at actually looking at the ROI of initiatives we've invested in.
Stories don't win in any environment. Badass results of smart strategic investments do.
You mean the leadership that can't even book their own conference rooms? Or do their own TEAs? That don't know how to connect to webex? That post on Workplace to look digital?
Its not that the people in the field don't like innovation, they don't like time wasting science experiments sent out here by people who have no idea what is done in the field.
It’s not just the leadership. The people who do the work in the field don’t like technology innovation either. Pretty big pushback.
