Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Adios Lawton!

His track record is pretty clear. 2+ years and he again moves on. Really bad hire by Gennette and he’s on the block next. Lawton made some horrendous and irresponsible cuts of talent across the company in a flawed effort to get leaner. His lack of expertise and leadership has created a disaster and Gennette’s corporate culture continues to deteriorate. Unhappy Holidays at Macy’s!!

Hey Macy's also fired the best trainer in the picking dept this year, also was the top picker held all the records in their uph rate. No errors. Now that is lost. Good luck finding that again out of an associate in your warehouses. Warehouse is drama field. Friends in charge promoting friends to stand around to gossip. Work place violence is alright these days and no d–g screens for managers and supervisors. You see it's also failing online. Good day.

CINCINNATI - Macy’s Inc. will welcome its newest president with more than $22 million in cash and stock awards, according to a securities filing Monday.

Hal Lawton, 43, was lured away from eBay Inc. to revamp Macy’s merchandising, product development and digital marketing strategies. In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Macy’s said Lawton will receive signing benefits of $16 million, including a $5.5 million cash bonus “in consideration of various items he may be required to repay or forfeit upon departure” from eBay.

The cash award is to be paid in two installments by next March and is subject to clawback provisions that could require Lawton to repay the bonus if he voluntarily leaves Macy’s within 24 months.

Look on the bright side every company does better once Hal leaves. He was very unimpressive when he visited my store. Didn’t say much, didn’t understand the business. If I’m a competitor of Tractor Supply they should be celebrating.

Macy's is the worst-performing stock in the S&P 500 this year. So it looks like Lawton is leaving a company in serious trouble for one with a much brighter future.

Hilary Swank’s Townhouse Sold to the New President of Macy’s
By Morgan Halberg • 12/21/17 7:50am
https://observer.com/2017/12/hilary-swank-west-village-townhouse-sold-macys-president-hal-lawton/

"The new owner is none other than Hal Lawton, the newly appointed president of Macy’s. Lawton doled out $10.5 million for the 3,736-square-foot house, which was on the market for a touch under $12 million."

The charming home features a newly updated kitchen with a gas fireplace, limestone floors and floor-to-ceiling casement doors that lead to the private outdoor garden. There are 11-foot ceilings on the parlor floor, per the listing shared by Corcoran brokers Robert Browne, Jennifer Ireland and Chris Kann, who declined to comment on the sale. The living room features restored original woodwork and a new gas fireplace; another gas fireplace is located in the media room.

Well. When this happens it’s usually means things aren’t working. This holiday season is a disaster. Parking lot is empty. Longest line on Black Friday is 4 people. Jeff is out of touch. He starting to see all his mistakes. Which may cost him ceo. At the end of the day you can’t stop the sinking ship.

"At least he's smart enough to get off the Macy's ship before it founders. It's clear that Macy's is in trouble. Sales are down. Inventory is up, and, of all things their e-commerce business is off."

Some observers saw Lawton's departure coming.

"The only thing surprising about this is the timing," Columbia University Business School retail studies professor Mark Cohen told Retail Dive in an email, adding that Lawton didn't quite have the chops to be Macy's president and may be challenged in his new job as well.

Lawton joined the company in September 2017. He had come from eBay. Lawton’s strong digital background was a reason why he was attractive to Macy’s management.

He had many disagreements with the culture of Macy’s

Comparable sales had dropped 3.5% in the last quarter and inventory is very high.

Jeff, thank you! Better hope for Macy's now! Very sad and disappointed at the talent that has been let go due to poor decisions by Mr. Lawton. Number 1: out source of our talented IT staff. We are feeling the pain now!

He is not polished enough even for a tractor company. What do you think will happen with the leadership team now?
