Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Pepsi Employee Loyalty

I have given the majority of my working career to Pepsi and my family and I have made countless sacrifices for my work. I expect to be cut soon but being close to retirement age I expect to have quite a challenge finding another job. I still have bills and really can’t afford to retire. Does Pepsi do anything to help the more senior/older employees being let go?

I have no more loyalty. Worked many years here and always had passion and drive. Many sacrifices my family made as well. No more. That all changed 4 years ago. When you get to a certain age you’re treated badly. I had the foresight to witness that years ago and planned well for it. Now I’m looking forward to retirement before summer, the busiest time. Process already started and papers submitted. I’ll give a month notice and even thats being nice. Good luck to those remaining. Life’s too short. I’m lucky I don’t need to work after but I like working. Will get a PT job to keep busy and active. This is no longer the same Company I remembered with Weatherup and Enrico. Now those were great leaders!

No, nothing. You get your required severance and a boot to the hindquarters.

The sad reality is that PepsiCo employee loyalty was all just an internal marketing scam. 60 yrs or 30 yrs, your on your own after being cut. Pepsi made sure to put older employees in the worse possible spot. Knowing they were terminating older employees, all training/re-skilling was denied for years. Transitioning to alternative Internal opportunities were denied. PepsiCo essentially reduced re-hire potential for their longest serving employees to almost zero. After being terminated, there was no compassion for employees close to retirement age. This great company left its most loyal employees high and dry. It’s a shame.

Nope but you can retire from PepsiCo after severence ends then get contracting jobs
For extra money
You will get medical $$ and can take pension
I was cut and also had to work on vacation etc thinking that would save my job
I was cut this year and my friends all around 60 years old

Like you I was let go after 22 years of loyal service in Feb 2018. At 58 years old my package was similar to my peers that were also let go that were younger than me. Some benefits will continue for the duration of the package. They also provide you with outplacement services from a 3rd party to assist during the transition to do up your resume, assist you in interviewing skills etc. This service is useful to those of us who have not had to search for a new job in decades.

Do yourself a favour, save all your PDR's, awards and recognitions to a thumb drive to bring home. Having these documents available to you will be most helpful if you have to start writing your resume from scratch.

At present the economy and job market is good. While finding a job at our age that pays well is a challenge most of us find that life is usually a lot better after PepsiCo. I wish you all the best regardless of what happens.
