Rochester First.Com (WROC), posted on Jan 7, 2020, " The Webster Economic Access Project will be the future of Xerox Park in collaboration with the Village and Town of Webster. The Webster Economic Development Alliance has been able to get $1,838,000 in Empire State Development funding to rehabilitate and modernize 8.5 lane miles of primary roads that were not available to the public within the Xerox industrial campus."
What gives? Is Xerox moving out?
Xerox was given tax incentives by Monroe County last year to keep "some" jobs in Webster because they were going to fully abandon Webster all together. That's why they moved most people that are left to building 111 or on that side of the Webster campus.
i hope NYS, county of Monroe, Town of Webster, Village of Webster do not pay anything for these roads. Waste of $ given other priorities. Any $ from the state could be better spent elsewhere. Let Xerox Webster campus road rot!
They might move the positions in Wilsonville to Raleigh.

All 600 jobs do not need to come from Webster. Think bigger picture. All I’m able to say right now
If you believe XDX is all that will be moving to Raleigh then you need to read the link below. It says there will be 600 positions in the Raleigh location, which is a lot more than just XDX. Many other articles say the same number. And I have heard 600 is just the initial number and that they expect it to be followed by more once the operation is up and running.

XDX is moving to NC. The rest will remain in Webster. Ideally for Xerox is to sell the campus and only lease back what is needed.
The news article proves what's happening. Do you think a town or village is going to spend a dime for upgrading roads that belong to a private company?
No, never.
The Webster campus is likely in the process of being transferred to the village of Webster, which along with the announced opening of RTP in Raleigh means Xerox is probably leaving Webster altogether.

This is just more proof that all the jobs in Webster will be moving to North Carolina. They are doing a little cosmetic window dressing to try and get some interest from outside companies or property mgmt firms as they move everything to Raleigh.
The buildings on the Webster campus, except for a couple that have been updated, are old. And the interiors usually look worse than the outside. I've been there for meetings when I'm traveling and they are just depressing. I don't know when they were built but I was shocked how old and outdated they are inside. And some offices for senior executives look like they were furnished by the local Goodwill center.
It's actually a perfect analogy to the company itself. Never updated, just dying a slow death.
No, several of the roads internal to the campus are private roads, not "dedicated" to the town. in order to bring the roads up to public roadway standards, work will have to be done. Whether it's a good use of taxpayer dollars for those of us who live in New York State is a separate question. I can't imagine big interest in the campus. Some of the buildings have been for lease or sale for quite a while. Especially when just a couple miles to the east you can rent or build in Wayne county for much cheaper.
For those of you who have never visited the Webster location, it's about a mile east to west. Two years ago, the local Rochester paper had an article about Xerox Square shutting down and employees moving to Webster. Seems much longer ago than January 26, 2018! From that article:
"Webster remains the company’s largest global location, with more than 5 million square feet of office, manufacturing, lab and warehouse space. The campus encompasses 600 acres of land and approximately 50 buildings."
From the article: "Our hope is to improve the roadways, sidewalks, streetlights, add some street trees as well, and make it a functional, modern campus"
And to answer the 'is Xerox moving out' question: Many of the buildings in Webster are already empty
Orchard St. needs work at the X end. Why the big amount, well, Gov. Andy's road contractors don't come cheaply. Like the Buffalo billion. Made men need to be paid their due.
What's wrong with the roads that they need 1.8 million to fix them? They seem fine to me.
I had always assumed they were already public.
