Hello, Ive worked over 2 years now at Nordstrom at a million dollar cosmetics counter. I am always on time, never call in sick, and work really hard...I made Pace Setter for 2019. Doesn't matter.....
They didn't even give us heads up and CUT an entire DAY off our schedule until March. This just infuriates me... Congrats on ALL your hard work, and great job on making pace setter. Also congrats on your counter being UP and all of you doing a great job as well, and being a top 10 in the department, but sorry were cutting ALL of you an entire day. Did I mention 2 of us at the counter travel 1:30-2 hours each way for our shifts? Their recommendations is to USE MY PTO! So you are proposing I supplement my income for what YOU cut me with my own PTO...Your multi million dollar company is proposing I do this? With NO heads up and now through March, and you wonder why people DONT STAY, WHY all the high turnover, and WHY People leave to other places? Why should I stay, when you blatantly don't care about your workers? Ive never worked at a company where you are treated in such a matter even when you perform and do very well....WTH is going on? It was totally hush until after XMAS!!! Is this truly the Nordstrom way now? Ive never seen such actions and my coworkers tell me they've never seen such deep and blanket cuts across the board.... Its sad, because I love my counter, and my team and I loved working at Flagship Chicago, but I see no reason to stay!!!!

Is this lawful to force you to use PTO in order to keep your benefits ?? Can you supplement your pay with employment security?? Cutting hours stops Nordstrom’s bleeding and starts the employees !!
Your Dept manager most likely went over budget hours during the holidays or possibly the entire year . In order to compensate for not correctly budgeting he/she has to cut hours before the fiscal year ends. As to why your manager is instructing you to use your PTO, since PTO usage does not affect the department budget . It’s unfair for employees to use PTO, but what do you expect from the “big fancy”?
a thousand cuts will bleed you dry if you stay. Get out now while the economy is still in hiring mode.
