As a former Software Architect for the Sperry software group I can only tell you my past experiences
working for this group. I am currently working in the west coast for a major software company and I can certify that there is no comparison to the way Sperry Software operates. The managers in sperry software are not proactive. They only react whenever they are under pressure. The code that the developers produce does not follow the most modern software design patterns used in industry. Their software seems to lagging several years in software tech. Because of poor training and time constraints the developers are producing software with way too many bugs which explains why they are constantly releasing patches. I can only blame the managers for this. They are not using TDD test driven development which is something that almost every company in the US is using. Developers and testers seem to work less than 8 hours a day taking as much as 1 hour and a half lunch especially on Fridays. Too much cell phone usage during working hours. The number of contractors from outsourcing companies has doubled. The managers are aware that their software has architectural issues but they simply close their eyes to the problem. The managers only care about pleasing their bosses. I left the group because I felt my career was degrading in this group. Others have done the same.

Why have capital outlay for a business line that has run its course? Halliburton is really good at making due with minimal recurring expense. Thats how big red has lasted so long. Believe it or not there used to be directional hands that could drill without software, doing hand calculations
I also work for Sperry Software and I certify the lack of transparency in this group. The managers in this group are supposed to give us feedback on our performance as software developers. No reviews have been done for years.

If you think Sperry software is bad, wait till you see the hardware! Be glad you don't have to pay R&M bills to run those tools.
