Frustrated Whale- you always are on point with your comments and I completely respect you for it!!
If you’re still working there, I feel for you as sadly nothing is going to change. But I understand that making a move is hard.
RE: to person who thinks its ok to turn away from animals
I would invite you to check out a link. I'm gonna break said link but also pull a statement from it. (I'm breaking the link because i don't know if that will trigger a block or something like some other websites do.
https://seaworldentertainment(dot)com/about-us/
"SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment™ is a leading theme park and entertainment company providing experiences that matter and inspiring guests to protect animals and the wild wonders of our world. We are one of the world’s foremost zoological organizations and a global leader in animal husbandry, behavioral management, veterinary care and animal welfare. We also rescue and rehabilitate marine and terrestrial animals that are ill, injured, orphaned or abandoned, with the goal of returning them to the wild. The SeaWorld® and Busch Gardens® rescue teams have helped more than 36,000 animals in need over the last 50 years."
OK, so read that. We are ABOUT animals. Period. Rescue. Rehab. Zoological. Inspiring guests to protect animals and our world. Not roller coasters.
Turning away from these animals changes who we are and changes the type of people who come to the park and what we take away. It is what makes us special. It separates our park from Disney, universal, fun spot, and every other theme park out there. Because honestly if you look at the other parks vs us our rides aren't anything special, our food definitely isn't and merchandise is merchandise. If i want to buy something sesame i can go on amazon and get free shipping vs what is at the park.
I have a lot of friends that are always curious about our parks. Some of them with kids themselves. When i take pictures to show them cause they aren't local, you know what they want to see? Its the animals. They get excited over that. I don't get messages about "Omg the new coaster! Can you take pictures?!" No, it is "OMG I love sea lions!"
Do i want SeaWorld to close? No i do not want that either and I fully believe we could be in a good place without going barreling towards becoming a six flags clone. It just takes people who will finally stand up to peta/blackfishers which we do not seem to have. However if we are going to just be in a situation where everything good about this company gets stripped away just to become that clone.. well pull the band-aid off and do it so those of us that have been loyal can make our choices to stay or go knowing ultimately what the end goal is.
As long as you get your bonus, right? To hell with what the true heart of the company is!
If you don’t care about the animals, then why work here?
There’s nothing wrong with turning away from animals. You people won’t be happy until this park doubles down on animals and then needs to shutter its doors because of it.
We have known SW is in trouble for a while. How much turnover has been at the top? Not even necessarily corporate side but just park levels? Every few months it seems another high level VP leaves and gets replaced and there just is not -any- real direction at the top. Communication is dead unless it com es to delivering bad news such as our benefit changes and half the time we all find out info second hand.
While everyone who has had extensive contact with the new CEO seems to talk really highly of him and how he wants to do things.. I do not see how he will calm anything down and get the board to back off short of him having dirt on them to essentially say "back off or else". We all know that wont happen. So i expect in a year this CEO will leave and we will see another come in on our way of turning away from animal based to purely rides based theme park...good luck all who are still here.
Yep on point
