My mother was laid off at Macy's New York. She got nothing. She was only paid her sick time and vacation. She has worked there for over 25 years . At least they should have compensated her .

Medicare eligibility age should be 60 since a lot of folks are losing jobs near 60 and then not finding any jobs.

I drive tractors now a days. This country is run by CEOs and politicians are in the pockets of CEOs. So I chose to join the winners group.

CEO pay has been driving inequality in the United States, and we as the people have to do something about it. Since the 1970's CEO pay has grown 1000% while employee pay has grown 468%. When Macy's shut down executives got millions in bonuses while employees were getting laid off and may or may not get unemployment.

I received email of my severance package, it states based on my years with Macy's and my position as part-timer I was eligible for $1324.00 in severance pay. WELL, they sent me $748.00 and when I finally got through to HR, the Colleague Support Rep told me that Macy's had the rights to change the amount of payouts. And this was done after I signed the separation agreement. MACY'S you stand for Nothing.

If a certain age group was let go remember there are options. Don't just sit idly by your state labor department and EEOC. All the best colleagues!

My worked for Macy’s for 22 years and she just got laid off in June. She is going to be 62 this October. She is devastated by the news and doesn’t understand how they kept employees that are newer and some even who underperform. Is there a criteria they use to choose who to let go? She is close to a retirement age and worried it will be hard for her to find a job.

Large layoffs is what I think will happen. Bloomingdale’s is on the chopping block now. Before the pandemic our store (2 floors) staff was reduced to a skeleton crew! Union had to fight them constantly because no coverage/lack of loss prevention/dangerous environment! Top floor became one giant Dept. They continually scheduled 0ne associate! Dangerous!!! Down to one cleaning lady tried had with no help and broken equipment. SO NOW they somehow have reduced the staff even more!! We were already doing triple the work load!! THIS IS A DYING BUSINESS! Cut your losses and move on.

I used to work in Macy's as a store associate for several years until 2020 changes. These layoffs were expected, both in Jan and Jun, and I am sure it's not the last wave. All these years I had seen with my peers how corporate management makes decisions that make no sense at the store level. It's like they don't understand what's going on at the bottom of their company. Instead of screening demand and responding to it, the company often sends irrelevant to local market merchandise to the stores and expects to sell through it, then sends it on a 70-90% off clearance rack 3 months later. Value low-quality merchandise is being sold on the same floor with high dollar goods, so it's hard to tell what is Macy's target clientele. Macys.com prices are often lower than in-store, and it deters many customers from visiting stores. Shoplifting is big because of staff cuts. Many, many other questionable decisions. If you still have your job, start looking around soon, or it will be too late.

Like any business Macy’s has to adapt and sadly that means slowly converting into a more online platform. You can’t expect a company to keep burning cash and paying employees knowing the direction that retail is going. Distribution and online sales is the future of retail, but what Macy’s has going for them is the local stores having store pickup. Look if I was the CEO I’d slowly convert most stores into distribution centers but also have a small part as a showroom/sales. Also Macy’s need to increase their social media teams to properly deal with customer complaints on twitter etc. showing a strong customer service social media strategy is how you win millennial customers and will increase sales by a large margin. Given the chance I could turn the company around and make it the next amazon but better. The opportunity is there you just have to take it.

I maybe on my last week at MCCS. In two months it would be 8 years as a customer service support specialist. Recently our department was merged with credit granting. All were given minimal training and little support. We are doing each other's jobs and we are very much out of compliance while doing so. It's obvious this is how we will so be diminished as I now notice the staff has been downsized in the last 60 days by 100s of people who were let go for critical violations and credit time outs. When the VP left in December we should have seen it. It's officially not official. But it's real.

Jeff should be fired for how he has treated the employees let go, cheated out of severance and vacation, told to work 6 day weeks at holiday for comp and not given it. Harper said we planed this for 6 months, they plotted to reduce severance and cheated everyone out of promised time off. The fact is no one wants their product that has a 30% decline since he took over. Patty can’t merchandise her way out of a paper bag... his friend . You can paint , carpet and add new manikins . Change reporting structures but no one wants your product! Change the focus, your letting go anyone who has talent. Shame on you! Only a matter of time till you close and go down as the looser retailer, thank you Jeff.

Macy’s is not able to compete at the target level. Stores are mall based on the whole. Consumers taste levels have never varied this much, yet the sameness throughout every region negatively affects everything. There is zero reason to “shop” Macy’s, you see same products and stores are looking very worn and dated. It was only a matter of time when they closed regional buying offices and told everyone computers could understand customer wants. Low Prices are all that’s left and the “Macy’s” model doesn’t fit that direction. Now add in all the loses from vendor issues of led times, profitability and loss of volume. Macy’s did this to themselves.

I work at the flagship store in NYC herald Square. I work on the ground floor and today managers started pulling associates to the side or to the office to let them know they're either being laid off, fired, and or transferred to another department. Ive been with the company for two years and i found out im being transferred to another floor. The sales are AWFUL. For being the highest selling store it sure doesn't feel that way this year compared to last year. When i say its DEAD, its DEAD !! Kate spade alone has lost half a million dollars this year. Its Def time to leave macys , well retail in general. Retail stores will just be another blockbuster. If the FLAGSHIP store is doing awful then i can't imagine how the other stores are doing. I strongly advise for all of us to leave the sinking ship. One thing i learned in retail is that anyone and everyone is replaceable.

I just received my severance package. I’ve worked for 4+ years and told my position has been cut. No one wants to say why. My evaluations have been excellent yet no reason for being let go. My store has been going downhill for over a year. It looks like hell and we have a rat problem that will not go away. This company’s business model is outdated, and has no where to go but the Sears route. If you are still employed after 2/8/20 good luck. My advise is look for another job. It will pay better and you will be treated much better.

No staff no standards no stock it's sad the stores are a mess things all over floor who wants to come to shop in a store that looks like that. Another reason why Top dogs need to go on undercover boss get out of the office and see what real life in the stores is like

They need to skim from the top, not from the bottom. The problem is too many mistakes are being made by the upper management and the real work force is paying for that. I understand that this is taking place after a dismal inventory, lots of shortage. Part of the reason for all the shortage is that they cut the staff and there is no floor coverage. This is an open invitation for shoplifters. It is very upsetting to be shopping and see someone walk out the door with stolen items when you are standing in line to pay. Macy's needs to fully staff their stores.

What do you mean "criteria is 7 years of service and under"?? Are those the ones who will lose their jobs or are they the ones who will keep it??

I heard that Macys Union Square in San Francisco. Started telling selling associates of lay offs. Criteria for now is 7 years of service and under. I believe their goal is 42 associates.

The NYC Herald Square office upper management — VP, senior director, etc — is staffed with the most reprehensible, talentless people in the media industry. I worked with many of them for nearly a decade and while they think they're going to change the culture (work from home one day a week, etc) they're all cogs in a grueling machine and would push loved ones and dear friends in front of the bus to save themselves for another year of piss-poor work and for any iota of personal gain. It's sickening.

I have NO sour grapes, as I left on my own accord for significantly more meaningful work.
It's a sad place to spend 1/3 of one's life. Do not be lured into the s—hole.

Based on a recent news article, MacysTech, headquartered in San Francisco will be closing their doors completely and moving everything to their Johns Creek, GA center. Do you know if they have even thought about letting employees transition/move as well. A work from home option for those who would like to continue, but still are tied down to be in the area for personal, unforeseen reasons?
Is this truely possible without providing any breathing time for employees to find other jobs? Does California labor laws support this?

Is there going to be a press release today regarding stores they plan to close?

how many stores will be closed?

Depends on how you define small, medium, and large. I believe districts are collapsing, a numbers of stores will close, and Corp offices will be combined. That means cuts at every level and it could be large.

Big changes are coming on February 2020, before the fiscal year start. After inventory the company will start making cuts on staff and management. This year Macy's is not making the numbers or figures. Better start looking for another job.

It doesn't take a genius to see that they are going to implement a centralized workforce, same as Target/Walmart. They have already messed around with the support budgets so I would think changes are coming in 2020. This is the first X-mas season I've ever gotten daily/weekly emails asking how many hours we were going to come under our weekly budget and telling us we need to save hours etc. To say these are red flags is an understatement.
