Honestly, the only reason Cisco is still even alive today is due to the headwinds faced by Huawei. I couldn't care less if Huawei copied Cisco code in the past, etc. As of today Huawei has superior products than Cisco for both enterprise and Telco customers, they cost about 30% of Cisco's atrocious prices, at least here in the USA you get unbelievable service from Huawei (they are eager to please for obvious reasons). We have both Cisco and Huawei equipment at our enterprise and the Cisco's have been an eternal source of trouble - bad motherboard, inter-operability issues with other manufacturer equipment, etc. The Huawei equipment just works. I understand software has issues but it is Cisco's pompous attitude that pisses me off.

6 VPs/SVPs have already been sent packing. Anand Oswal, Sumeet Arora, Suresh Sangiah, and 3 others. 10% layoffs happening by Feb end. Even India will not be spared this time.

Unfortunately, most of the time Cisco layoff US citizens and keep the H1-visa employee. US government should closely monitor Cisco layoff and why it applies for so many H1-visa. There are more than10% of work force in US is on H1-visa.

Well 2 VPs directly under Maria Martinez are toast Burghoff and Cox. Magically one retired and the other found a better position.

Pick a month and you have at least a 1 out of 6 chance you will be correct. The layoffs never end. There is always a headwind due to this or that. Changing skill sets. Blah blah blah.

Not just C++... Pick any of the top 10 or so languages and start becoming a master at 1 or more.

The market will pay extremely well for everything right now... Front end, back end, big Data, embedded, and mobile.

You just have to have the skills and can pass the technical interview. That means reading, that means practicing stupid whiteboard test, that means understanding cloud-based microservices.

That does not mean understanding Cisco iOS - there are thousands a certified techs that maintain the hardware.

If you wait until the LR to fix the skills of atrophied at Cisco then you're going to have a long break trying to reinvent yourself.

Layoffs will happen in 2020, they will be rolling on a monthly basis, they will be demoralizing, they will boost the stock price, they will blindside good employees, they will protect good politicians, directors and above will never be terminated, or CEO will bemoan them, and we will visit this board to discuss them.

In other words just like the last 7 years.

Beyond that, no one has specifics yet because honestly management is somebody random and how they target groups and teams. If they were capable a forming a long-term plan then they wouldn't need the layoff engineers so they can buy new companies so they can lay off those new engineers so they can buy newer companies.

It'll be the same as 2019, the same as 2018, the same as 2017, and so on, and so on.
