Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Working OT at Juniata

I just heard there are guys working overtime at Juniata. What a slap in the face to us guys that are laid off. To all you non union supporting company men that would rather work overtime when guys are on the street your time will come and you will have nobody to blame but yourselves.

Emergency overtime is happening at smaller points as well. Getting "forced" to stay 4 hours over almost every day after they cut quite a few guys. Crazy

If there is a standing agreement between carmen and any representative from NS that were to state the allowance of contractors with protection of a certain number of carman at a facility, and that agreement has been breached, then yes you can file a claim. Have you seen the language of this document, have you seen this document at all? There is a difference between someone telling you it exists and reading it yourself. There are crafts currently, that are fighting with a claim referred to as appendix M Washington Job Protection of 1934 and 1963. If it is a violation of a written document you most certainly can and should write a claim then appeal it as far as it can go.

They can't make you do anything. Let's all try to remember that we live in America. Let them charge you with insubordination, let them charge us all with insubordination. Quit fearing them. Let the investigations pile up. Exercise your rights as Americans. Let's start putting pressure on them like they do us. Let's pile up the lawsuits for wrongful termination. We can do this if we quit laying down and grow some balls boys.

OVERTIME EMERGENCY SITUATIONS ONLY. JLS HASN'T HAD OVERTIME IN YEARS. NOT SINCE THE SD60 PROGRAM WAS COMPLETED.

Where is the written claim against Norfolk Southern for contracting out craft work, where are the appeals? It should all be documented and able to be presented when asked. When the Union doesn't use the avenues to fight for what is in the agreement, NS will continue to ignore it. Also, the Union isn't one person, or two or three (kind of the definition for a union); it's imperative that all craft members push for claims and grievances to be filed (trust but verify it has been completed). This is why we are losing.

It WAS due to a busted water main, and overtime was worked to avoid an outside contractor getting the job. Maintenance wasn't happy about working O.t. but they are trying to save what little work they have left that isn't subcontracted out.

Okay for someone to be mandated to work overtime and let's just clarify this so we are not buffaloed by those who choose not to learn their work rules the company would have to go down through the entire crafts roster looking for the overtime personnel we'll just say they did not get anyone out of the hole in tire shop crafts roster then at this time they could mandate the youngest person on that roster this includes student Carmen also to work the overtime only then can they mandate someone to work overtime.

At scx, they have been forcing for a while now. Including Thanksgiving where we're being forced both days. If you don't it's insubordination.

Nobody gives a sh– either about guys laid off. As soon as I was gone people stole all of my tools so they can take home. Years working with people and they just look out for themselves. I wish I was there listening to people b–ch about working weekends or second shift

Nothing is mandatory they did it out of sheer greed and lack of unionism let's also not forget the person that did work the overtime as I had heard was a union president what a bigger slap in the face for his members that are laid off I guess it's all about self-preservation at this point the snakes will rat and the brave will starve.
