Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Problem with camo vests

First off I want to say I support the troops and our veterans. However, I feel that every associate that wears a camo vest is one less red vest off the floor. It confuses customers, they aren’t sure who the experts are. Some stores essentially half the staff it seems wears them. We put so much time into building our red vest trademark and now it’s being diluted. How red vests for everyone and a patch for the veterans? Managers wear them and I’ve seen multiple times customers being unsure who has the final say in the store. Red vest should be our brand and we should show how proud our veterans are to wear a red vest. The perception to the customer should be a sea of red vests as far as the eye can see. Camo, let’s be honest, is designed to hide and blend in the nearby surroundings.

Seems it only takes one person to make the many conform to their reasoning and thought. As a veteran and over 20 year Lowe's employee (wonder how long they have been with Lowe's - and not HD) I see it as Lowe's showing respect to the veterans of the country. Has the person wanting to do away with the veteran's vest ever been in the military. I doubt it.

I told the store manager no when he asked me if I wanted a camo vest.
I will not wear something that sets me that far apart from my co-workers.

Was proud of my time in uniform, but I took it off and went home to be a civilian.

Joe learned nothing about leadership in the Marines.

The three leadership principles of the USMC:
1) The troops eat first, officers second. Joe gets an F.
2) Always ask the Sergeants. Joe fired them all.
3) Lead, follow or get out of the way. Joe is huge hinderance to progress.

If a customer can’t figure out that someone wearing a giant camouflage vest with a name tag works at Lowe’s then they shouldn’t be shopping there in the first place

Didn't you get the memo? This is the Starship Troopers timeline. There is no such thing as too much fetishization when it comes to the military.

As a Delivery Driver my vest is a pull-over with no pockets and reflective trim and looks much like a regular Sales Floor Associate vest, and as such I get stopped a bazillion times on the floor making my day even longer; while the camoed vets are less so. Corporate is getting more and more uptight about Drivers wearing their vests when on the clock that I leave it on in the store now and while helping customers is what it's all about seeing customers walk past camo vests to corner me while I'm trying to hunt-down missing orders that camo vests never pulled is very frustrating.

Im don’t wear one. First As appreciative as I am when people thank me for my service, Its a closed chapter in my life and I did not see action so there’s really no reason to thank me. Other than a few bad storms and a bouts of seasickness I was never in any real danger. Second, Im not a marketing tool for Lowes. Its somewhat patronizing to vets to put us on display so Lowes can garner good will with the public. Want to ‘thank me”? Pay me more lol
