Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Omaha is next

Maybe not next...but on the “town hall” Vena just said, “Omaha...or wherever headquarters is.”

pffffft….vena...I saw him speak first time on the latest propaganda "lance's town hall" they just put out.....it made me nauseous. First I cannot stand to look at the weasel LF....then I saw this schmuck TV mumbling about nonsense.....I just thought what tree of nepotism did they shake for this monkey to fall out. These companies have passed these high level rejects around for decades. They hail them as some hero to the industry for a minute, then they vanish and resurface in another board room except with a new treasure chest. These clowns are demolishing this once great Company, and seemingly having a great time doing it.

The UP firing Vena might happen but I seriously doubt that. All these closed locations are coming back to haunt them right now. These locations served a purpose, but to Vena they didn't. Just the number of locations closed has gotten a lot of attention, right along with the rise in high profile derailments. The good old days of the once great UP are over. Even if Fritz and Vena were eliminated, it will take years to get back to anywhere close to where we were before. If you were let go and called back, would you trust the company enough to go back? So many people have moved on, and are doing much better now. Why go back to be ridiculed, written up, pulled from service, d–g tested at-will, forced to work insane hours, use unsafe equipment, deal with brain dead managers, and have no life.

When you see an OMT on their phone you can be certain they're on LinkedIn or Glassdoor looking for another job.

I've seen more than ten resumes in the past month from managers (OMTs) currently working at UP. They get sent to me because I used to work there, and hiring managers want to know what stuff like "track and time" means, and how it relates to our business (it doesn't).

If you're a disgruntled OMT sending out resumes try using standard corporate language (not UP speak) and emphasize the transferability of your skills. Nobody out here will hold leaving UP against you, because every corporate recruiter and hiring manager knows that UP is literally the worst place to work in the United States.

Vena is a fool, UP is the real gangster playing dumb. The book states play dumber than your mark. Vena is telling UP all the secrets of the other railroad, While UP is about buy it out or bust up a merger. UP also owns shortlines, these shortlines are buying up miles of tract then once said and done UP will fire Vena, they will hire back up and we will seat on the mainline and not turn a wheel. The good ole days get on a train for 12 hours and not move. Come on guys you know mgmt is dumber than a cow licking its on balls. Just sit tight we will all be called back and paid. Dont worry about these roger rabbit execs... We all know they know nothing.

The field managers positions are so miserable and poorly paid that they won't need to lay any of them off. Most (including myself) quit as soon as possible and move on to better jobs elsewhere.

The problem with the field managers is that they have to keep hiring and re-training them, because they can't retain the ones that they hire. So instead of a seasoned manager who knows railroad operations, you get something called an "OMT" who is little more than fodder to be chewed up and spat out within a year. If the OMT approves a few POs for some come contractors and sits in on some pointless conference calls before quitting UP counts it as breaking even.

Right now they claim to be able to get management numbers down through attrition. After they are done with agreement employees there will be no choice but to reduce non agreement. And all the ones who thought they were safe will feel it too. Good luck
