It's not in the best interest of the company if a legal declaration was signed. That's called false representation.

These stores are closing because of the online shopping but people are still buying the same stuff. Out sourcing to Mexico and China the product still comes back to the us on ships and gets transported. So how is it getting transported apparently not by rail.

What real shady things are they doing? Be specific. You saying they do shady things doesn’t make it so. Have they violated law? If you have evidence of that, call the US Attorneys office. Cutting jobs is a company prerogative and responsibility IF it is in the best interest of the shareholders. That’s fiduciary responsibility and is governed by law. No, I’m not in management. I am however, an open minded person that understands this is not a one sided story. There are two sides. Because you don’t like it doesn’t change facts. Stop being a victim and move on if you don’t like the path that YOU chose. Risks and all. There are no guarantees in life. Accept it.

OP-You must be an executive or at the very least a manager at UP. Your post was a bad attempt to distract from the obvious problem at the UP. Regardless of what you believe, the UP is doing some real shady sh–. Fritz has continually lied to his employees. I don't give a damn what you believe, but these issues need to be addressed now. The mounting safety issues, low morale, civil complaints, lawsuits, and the UP making the top spot on the worst employer list. His job performance rating is the lowest most people have ever seen. I get it, other places have had layoffs as well. I feel for those employees as well. I also want to add about a declaration he signed highlighting the company over the shareholders. Yet he publicly stated in the earnings call that more reductions will take place. Just ask the KC folks their opinion of it all. Now how in the hell is that putting the company first? I'd like for the OP to explain how he hasn't lied about that. We'll wait for the answer.

So let me get this straight. Just posted the lowest operating ratio ever but the earnings year over year are down. All these are companies that need stuff shipped except one and you dont see the correlation. Most of these companies were at one time also making billions. Times change and fortunes turn.

Spot on x0z-wav . We understand companies must reduce staff when times are hard. But UP is simply taking riches and passing them off to shareholders at the expense of everything and everyone else. The companies listed by OP would k–l to be in UP’s enviable cash gushing quasi-monopoly situation.

Impressive posting but your argument is pointless. Most of the companies you listed have nothing to do with railroading. Workforce cuts are normal to some extent. It's people like you that fail to see the real problems behind these cuts. I couldn't give 2 sh–s about bed, bath, beyond. Most if not all of these cuts do have a commonality between them. That commonality is the economy. Does the UP need to make these kinds of cuts? No they don't. Could the UP find alternative work for these employees temporarily? Yes they could. Everything going on with these RR's is all about shareholder profits. It's always been about that. There are now cities, states, shippers, and branches of government calling them out for it. How does a company that makes over 20 billion dollars a year, terminate people, and then say it's necessary for the future of the railroad. Let's also not forget the hundreds of millions they saved in tax cuts, every year due to the tax reform. So I'll just end this by saying your looking for an argument you just don't want.
