How about the employees that were 60+ years old and was forced into retirement, "GM did not choose to offer these benefits; they were forced to offer them by the U.S. Department of Labor." I could have received TRA for 2 years post my Severance and then retired 2 years later (This notice in the mail (TAA) came too late for me to benefit). This would have gave me a larger monthly benefit for Social Security, Maybe this is not the form to vent, maybe an attorney is the answer or direction to this issue " GM did not choose to offer these benefits; they were forced to offer them by the U.S. Department of Labor!!!! What a company?????
Contact your local Michigan Works office to see if they can do a one-on-one review of the TAA benefits. I too love too far from St. Clair Shores and made alternative orientation arrangements.
If you are unable to make it into one of the orientations, I would recommend going into your local Michigan Works and speaking with a representative there. They will be able to provide information on whether or not you are eligible, how to apply, and what your next steps are.
Is there a website where we could obtain more information and apply for these benefits? Or do we have to attend the meeting? Meeting location is too far.
This program is federally funded. Benefits include: up to 130 weeks of training (tuition, books, equipment, etc.), up to 130 weeks of wage subsidy payments, a wage subsidy for workers 50+, job search allowance and relocation allowance. Visit your local Michigan Works! for more information.
Not sure whether government or GM pays for these benefits, but benefits include: classroom training (including tuition, books, and fees), Income support, resume and job search assistance, wage subsidy for workers 50 and over, and healthcare coverage tax credit.
what benefits are there?
So are the TAA benefits being offered by the state of Michigan, or are they coming from GM?
A TAA Petition must be filed by impacted workers. It "provides aid to workers who lose their jobs or whose hours of work and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports." GM did not choose to offer these benefits; they were forced to offer them by the U.S. Department of Labor. You may be ellgible for benefits even if you have a new job if you make less. Definitely go to a meeting.
There are benefits too if you've found a job but it doesn't pay as much as you were making at GM.
Yes you should absolutely sign up to go to an orientation and go! My husband went yesterday and there are great benefits for them to help you if you haven't found a job yet and for health tax credits and pay subsidy.
I also received this letter. Any info is appreciated.
Yes. I also received this letter in the mail, but like you I was also confused by it and didn’t know what to make of it. Does anyone else know what it is? Any feedback would be halpful.
