Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

THE SAFTEY STAND DOWN

Candid discussion on how to make work place safer??....   Well i think we are having so many fatalities and incidents due to the fact of not knowing if we will be employed tomorrow. UP is using this tactic to scare employees saying if you are not productive we will close your yard/location. So everyone is trying their very best to increase production to stay employed, while UP laughs and reaps from the benifits. This whole entire tactic that they created has forced us to make short cuts to improve productivity qt the same time increase the possibility of accidents. Than they have the audacity to wonder why there are so many accidents lately.....really.

I feel for the people in the safety standown video who lost a friend and a colleague, and I feel for the families of the fallen railroaders, but the way that the upper echelon is attempting to capitalize on these fatal incidents is absolutely disgusting and sickening. I firmly and genuinely believe that there is not a single ounce of care or concern for our fallen from any of the C-Suite goons who were behind putting out that video. It's a publicity stunt simply for good PR with the board of directors and shareholders, in order to help boost stock prices. Any time I see Lischer on any video publication talking about safety, I just want to puke. The only thing he cares about is money. Get real man, you're not fooling anyone.

Research the deaths that occurred at a train crossing outside of Waco Texas. There were 5 by the mid-90s. (Hwy 6) UP got sued so as to put up crossing arms. In court, UP argued that those 5 deaths didn't justify the cost of upgrading the open crossing with those crossing barriers. Unfortunetly, they won. How do you tell at least one family this isn't worth the cost. This should tell all just where the heck UP's concerns are. It ain't with lives! $$$$$$

I had the courage to care when I first started. Now I only have the courage to care for the people that are still there. The PSR move was a joke from day one. Lance even admitted that in a townhall he made in January of 2018. He implemented it anyways and now look at it. The pending lawsuits are increasing, customers are p-ss-d, employees are leaving instead of being furloughed,, and they broke through to the number 1 spot of the worst company in America. Does anyone even know what the hell the safety stand downs are even for? I was there for a long time, and I still don't know. I figured out very early in life that sh– happens. I don't need a video brainwashing me into thinking that somehow it's always the fault of the employee.

The real problem with the safety stand downs is that the people giving the talks about safety don’t actually care about safety...or you...or anything besides themselves and money. So it is a general waste of time and effort for everyone involved.

Whats weird about the whole thing is if you look on UP website, it has photos from different locations showing them watching the video and having a slapdash safety stand down. Who took these photos and why? What kind of bizzaro company is this anyway? Do these Managers actually think there fooling anyone? This place is nothing more than a Freakshow anymore.

I attended ours on Monday. The Superintendent (or whatever they call them these days) told so many lies by the end of it all his nose was longer than an autorack. 5 deaths this year and their solution is to get rid of safety rules and then give us a hat? Shameful.

I have the courage to care for myself, family and depart. Hopefully December will be my last year giving up 12 years of this c-ap. I'm embarrassed to even admit I work for Union Pacific. It is now one the most frowned upon companies. I'm not going to ramble on and feed in to being negative, they have been a great source of income for my family. I want others to not get caught up in the name Union Pacific but rather get caught up in hurry up and get out while you can.

They worried about the safety or their bonus. It's all about the love of money and greed.

The executive team probably knows that their implementation of PSR (specifically, the effect of the layoffs on the employees) is diminishing the safety culture, and they probably don't care all that much, because it isn't costing them customers and they're still making a profit. Either or both of those things will have to change before they take any serious action to fix the culture.

are you complaining about safety stand downs? that's been a joke for years. some manager and tsc guys get up there and tell their courage to care story and start weeping profusely.

just try and attend one while you're on overtime and then ask 40 questions. maybe even tell your own courage to care story and start weeping profusely right back at them. make it awkward for them and try and give the superintendent a hug after you've been sweating for ten hours and crying the last five minutes. let him know he really got through to you.
