Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Erosion of Trust

Leadership is the most fundamental element of any endeavor that requires the application of a broad range of skills from various individuals.

The most fundamental element of leadership is the trust placed in the leaders by those who are led. When that trust begins to erode, as it has at UP, both rapidly and severely, resentment and suspicion will take the place of trust and this will reverberate through every level of the organization, hampering performance in every department, sector, and section.

Eventually, the employees turn on management, and ultimately each other. Discipline breaks down. Indifference to performance rises. Insubordination becomes the norm. Nobody cares anymore. This is the future for UP. Get out while you can, if you can.

The sign on bonuses were offered at a time by some other class 1’s as well. BNSF for example and they have a stellar reputation. It had nothing to do with reputation.

Mr we’re all replaceable guy I agree we are all replaceable. I know the company had to pay 20k to get people to accept a job at my location because their reputation is so bad. Just look at job reviews at this place. Not good from what I see. This day and age people look at company reviews on job sites and determine whether of not they want to work for a company based on reviews. Based on current information being put on these sites I’m sure it will be difficult to find quality candidates. I’m over myself that’s why I’m looking elsewhere for employment and I’m not a cool aid drinker!

@11kckXr6-1ehp Is that you Vena? Yes, I know we’re all replaceable, but eventually replacing so many good ones is not good business.

Everybody is replaceable. There’s plenty of unemployed railroaders out there from other railroads that would jump on job openings if they became available. There’s also many that would love to get into the railroad that know nothing. Just like you knew nothing when you started. Get over yourselves because like everybody... you’re replaceable.

I know a lot of guys at my terminal are paying down debt, down grading their lifestyle getting ready for their next move. My buddy with over 10 years laid off sick for a job interview. This is a guy that a year ago loved his job and had plans to stay until retirement. Attitudes are really changing fast here and it not in a good way. Wonder what the company will do when people don’t care anymore and aren’t intimidated anymore. They rule by fear and intimidation and if they lose that they lose control.

Trust is important and trust me, Union Pacific was voted the worst company in America to work at for a reason.

Finally a post that actually is legit 🙌🙏. One thing people have to remember though...it is not just Union Pacific. It really is many companies across the board.

Vena is like a bull in a china cabinet and he could care less about trust. He’s an outsider that doesn’t care about Union Pacific employees.

You are absolutely right, a leaders responsibility is to build trust. Fritz is not trusted nor does he build trust and his minions are following the leader, followers not leaders.
