Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

relax!!!!!!!!!!!

Its truly amazing to see all these comments on this board. Change is inevitable in any business, I have almost 19 years with lowes. I have seen some change. This centric schedule has people freaked, I have said for years the weekends are where the stores struggle because nobody wants to be there but guess what that's when the paying customers are there. Everybody needs to take a chill pill and relax. Let the dust settle and then lets see. When you accept employment in a retail operation weekends are part of it. Everybody wants 8 to 5 Monday thru Friday but only banks offer that. Im not defending or criticizing this new schedule only saying that all the people who weasel out or call off to try and keep from working weekends is why this happened. You know who you are its no mystery. My opinion if you are unwilling to work weekends you never had one good reason to apply for work at lowes.

When I came to Lowes seven years ago, I could not believe the "corporate rotation" schedule,my background was in grocery retail, and Lowes biggest problem was having too many full timers on the same rotation, not just on the weekends, but everyday. The problem with part timers is that they aren't as dependable as full timers. Im really surprised Lowes has waited this long to get rid of this type of scheduling. Oh, and get your rotation changed? sure, if youre in good with the right manager. What is Lowes going to do about the rampant favoritism displayed by their managers?

Omg, what is wrong with you?
There are plenty of ways to get people to work weekends but lowes is too cheap and lazy to execute. Most of the real customers come in during the week. Only nut jobs shop on weekends. At least in my department.
So yeah now we have 4 people on the weekends and one during the week. I'm sure weekday customers will love how this plays out!
We only asked management to enforce the same policies they hold us accountable for as only people they are mad at get written up for attendance yet when these sh–ty part timers call off, are constantly late, and do almost nothing when they do show up and none of them ever get written up!
No one asked for set shifts. Most people at my store liked the matrix and mix of shifts. No one wants all the opens or closes because they have to do everything now. The only preference is choosing between all opens and all mids or closes obviously people choose opens or mids. About half would prefer mids to opens. The mix of shifts has always been fair to everyone. Now you're gonna have lots of resentment.
No one at my store works more than the one 6 day stretch a month. You are in a bad store if that happens and this was the whole reason to have a matrix.
Also why is management exempt from centric schedules when they are also expected to help customers? It's not like they do anything else so the least they could do is help customers while we do all the task work. Walking around counting things all day is not work. As a manager I spent all my time helping customers, so been there and done that.

"""Basically, most of you don't want to help customers. Sorry. But retail is weekends and evenings. You asked for better coverage for customers and no 8-10 day stretches, and set shifts. Well, now you got it."""

No I won't relax. The weekends are the only days I can do anything with my kids. They already had 5 of the 8 days per 4 weeks. That's plenty. Not my problem they can't find others who show up on their scheduled weekends nor that they let part timers turn in availability as being off one weekend day, which has gone on for years, they get 4 Saturdays or sundays off a month and we only get 3 as it is now.
I worked every weekend for ten years before Lowes so I've paid my dues buddy. Now it's someone else's turn.
This ain't Walmart so no they're not going to get qualified salespeople that order things correctly offering sh–ty Walmart hours to employees. The best employees will leave and you can stand at the door saying welcome to Walmart for all we care.
Have fun working 4 departments all by your lonesome.
Also we already have consistent shifts in my store. The only thing that will change is having days off that are known so you can plan anything in life at all. Completely and totally unnecessary with today's technology. It is ridiculous to have rotating days off every single week of the year. Weekend will be random as well.
Basically this is a pathetic sh– show and I can not work for a company that is a dressed up version of Wally world.
Hard pass.
Even the massive grocery chain in this area has set days off and they are slammed beyond belief nights and weekends and their employees get one weekend day off per week and they don't lose a weekend day off for taking a full weekend off, they don't have to pay it back like we now do. F—ing ridiculous.

No two days off in a row is the real issue here. Yes weekends are nice but I get that we'll be busy most weekends. Only getting split days, THAT is what stings.

So do all of the retail vendors work both Sat and Sun. No try calling dewalt. How about kohler... nope, carpet manufacturers... no. How about the mom and pop carpet installer. Sundays appointment only. How about a hobby lobby store? Closed every Sunday.

Malls are ghost towns on most sundays. Jump ship, don’t ride the USS lowe’s To the bottom of the ocean. She’s taking in water fast, one captain abandoned ship, get out while the economy is still strong.

Seriously! 1 weekend off every 8 weeks. Ground and Pound 11 hour days! Back to Serfdom and Slavery! Millennials won’t show up under the current schedule! No Balance.

i mean no disrespect , but this is one of the dumbest posts here recently. One must remember that when almost all of us were hired we were not being offered one weekend off every other month and rare back to back days off the other weeks. Who would have signed up for that? i get that some weekends and some holidays are required....i have been in sales my entire adult life, but what is being pushed down our throats now is not what was presented ten years ago . One of the reasons i came to Lowe's was that the scheduling was semi-decent. You think there are a lot of call outs now....it will get worse. You want more coverage for peak selling times....hire more quality people! But they are unwilling and incapable of doing so. And in the near future when they further eliminate tenured quality associates because we make too much, you will have even fewer "key associates" there to deliver quality customer service. They want to make this a great company?....well we are heading in the wrong direction.

Honestly, the every weekend thing makes sense. What doesnt make sense is why they cant give you back to back days mid week or why the schedule is being automated.

I do agree though, the amount of weekend call outs is insane and it happens because managers don't hold people accountable. Also there is zero thought about fellow workers. The few times I have had to call out I have apologized to the people I left short. I never see that happen with the associates.

It is far more than just about working weekends. There is no matrix. 3 out of 4 weeks a month are split days off. I would gladly give ALL my weekends up to have a Mon/Tues or a Wed/Thurs, etc... off.

Additionally as a part-time associate, one could expect it to have a schedule all over the place, but not as a tenured, full-time one. Most full-timers started off as PTs and have generally already “paid those dues”, if you will.

Corporate mouthpiece.

Many people that came to work for Lowe's was because an event, out of their control, caused the company they worked for to close or lay them off.

Lowe's seemed like a decent place to get a paycheck until an opportunity in their field came along. It wasn't that bad. Why not stay?

Then, what happened where they used to work is showing the same signs at Lowe's. What do I do??? I kept my mouth shut at my old job, and look what happened.

I used to work at a corporate office. I lied in the face of my employees and their pregnant wives. Asking me, "is my job safe? We're having a baby and want to buy a home".

I couldn't tell the truth, as we were a publicly traded stock, and if I said what I knew, I could be fined by the Security and Exchange Commission.

Everything wasn't fine. We were about to be bought out and shut down because the purchaser didn't need people, they needed our property and operating rites.

No one at a corporate office CAN tell you the truth if it will effect the price of their stock.

Know this..... there will be no Lowe's in 3 years. Our stores will be bought and used for another company. Not Home Depot. They don't need or fear us. Corporate Lowe's has been a follower. Not a leader. Followers get left behind, leaders succeed. Leaders don't higher failed CEOs to be their leader.

It may be better for some but worse for most. But any company that expects their slaves to work 46 weekends a year, and says don't worry is your sign to exit here while you can.

Your future may be taken by someone you work with, at least for now.
