Thread regarding Disney layoffs

Relax y'all

Layoffs, restructurings etc are part and parcel of not just Disney but most if not all large multinational corporations. As a former Disney Cast Member of 25 years, we learn early on, especially in the parks and resorts division, that we are a cyclical business. We learn quickly about business ebbs and flows constantly based on many variables. So then we learn to not take our Disney roles for granted but instead stay on top of our game, continuously improving our talent and skills in hope that we provide value added performance outcomes. While at Disney, we would likely see a medium to more extensive layoff every seven years or so. Yes it is an unpleasant time to be in a place where this is happening....so to the Disney Cast...this too shall pass....you'll carry your magical talents forward.

Well said, @114ykK99-9abz.

How do you expect a company that is in the business of making money to make business decisions based on the emotional and/or financial well being of hundreds of thousands of employees?

YOU signed up for the job and interviewed(several times, no doubt) to get the position. If running around as Pluto isn't going to bring in enough income to feed you and your family, that is no fault of Disney but your own.

You make the choices and decisions in your life, not your boss, not your employer. YOU make them. And if it sounds insensitive, then clearly you have a very feeble and loose grip on reality. I suggest you start with a dream and then wake up and make something of it. If not, go back to bed and keep dreaming.

***Full disclosure: I was part of the mass Animation layoffs in 2002-03. I've ventured into other jobs that showcased my experience and set of skills I learned at Disney. There is nothing like Disney Synergy...it applies to so many opportunities. Always keep in mind, when Disney goes through these layoffs, it's nothing personal but a business decision on a mass scale. Deal with it.

In other words, you dance around a theme park dressed as Pluto while living in your mothers' basement - without a family to feed or a mortgage. Most of us find Disney's recent staffing cuts both at Disney AND Fox utterly disgusting. Few in the biz trust them anymore as any stable place of employment.

Wow, talk about being insensitive and lacking empathy for your fellow employees...
