Don't make any long-term plans. UP certainly isn't

Lyndon Tennison retired, that's what happened. He understood the power of IT and how it could transform UP. He also understood that it's tremendously expensive to actually recruit talented people and retain them. BlackRock, Fritz, and the new Board are mining the company (when they're not busy buying back stock). Do you really think they give a rat's a– about innovation? About IT? About actually running an IT department? It's all over, folks. The surviving IT managers (those who have not yet been replaced) know it, too.
UP was a truly excellent railroad. But it has decided to become just a mediocre Class I railroad, like CSX, CN, CP, or NS–without an IT department transforming operational processes or driving cost savings. As an IT professional, you have nothing but a mediocre (at best) future at UP. Your best bet is to get out. If you're fresh out of college, then stay for a few years (if you can survive) then get out. Don't make any long-term plans. UP certainly isn't.

Wait a minute! Someone is actually retiring, and not being furloughed? This has got to be fake! No one retires from the UP.

Well if the CP is a mediocre company as stated, then why are their stocks so much higher? Why is the CP actually hiring? The CP and the CN are actually doing well post PSR. As soon as they ditched the PSR play, things started getting better for them. The UP is going to ride the PSR train to the end. The UP believes they can do better than the others in share value. Share price was around 125 per share pre-PSR. The UP share price had its highest of 180 and some change. The share value has been slowly declining, and will probably continue. Investors have already started decreasing their holdings in the UP. Lance is following the PSR playbook step by step. If and when this trade war ends, you're going to see increasing service issues. Lack of manpower is where it's going to bite them. Just ask the CP! Low personnel figures, lack of equipment, and maintenance issues is where it hit hard. Anyone can call this a conspiracy if you want to, but look around. Stock buybacks, personnel injuries, deaths, derailments, crossing accidents, mounting service complaints including fees and demurrage charges. If there's anyone with the UP on here then why is it we've had few deaths, and still have a zero showing on the FRA reportable injury counter?

I wouldn’t put it past leadership to wipe data. I wouldn’t even put it past them to have shredders going in the hallways, like they had at those other once great companies, like Enron and Arthur Anderson.

Is it UP IT professionals that have erased internal company emails regarding incriminating information involving critical incidents from company servers to keep it out of FRA/NTSB hands?
