Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

Xerox Rehire Changes - FYI

Just in case you want to rejoin Xerox after being IRIF’ed, Xerox changed the rules without communicating them. Last year’s documentation you signed indicated a 6 month waiting period. Effective January 2019 it was changed to 1 year. AND, if you rolled over your 401k and pension (if you have one) you can never be rehired. Pretty clear Xerox does not want anyone to return. Further proof that for Xerox, employees are viewed as liabilities not assets.

Worked as temp in different jobs for Xerox.
A/P, inventory,control,finance, planning,
Was assigned work that the Xerox employees did not want to do, didn’t complete or failed to follow through.Xerox workers had flex hours, pretty much came and went as they pleased, took quite a bit of paid time off (most had six weeks vacation)
plus paid holidays..I knew as a temp this was not provided but I needed a job.I didn’t mind the work but the unfairness made it hard to accept ...kept waiting for a permanent job offer but was always told it wasn’t in the budget. No longer work there and would never go back !

Me too. Worked as long term temp.Found out later other organizations gave their temps paid vacation as well as overtime billed through the agency.
Really depended on Manager of department as HR looked the other way.

I thought you couldn't come back at all if you had a pension due to an ongoing lawsuit that has been going on probably 20 years in the way Xerox was calculating pensions. However, now that they turn to temps, they have gotten around it in a way that should be illegal if it's not. They have the temp work for one agency for 19 months and then they make them switch to another agency and hire them through the new agency. These people are effectively employees. They must show up on time, do the same work that regular employees are doing. Yet they get no benefits, no vacation and if you need a temp for longer than even 6 months, that person should be an employee. It makes me wonder how many other corporations are dodging labor laws by using 3rd parties even when Xerox itself often acts as a 3rd party/outsourcing agency. And what's worse is that some of them are far better employees and are treated like 2nd class citizens. Time after time when there were cutbacks they cut great temps that came in on-time, worked hard and they kept lazy workers with 6 weeks vacation that strolled in an hour late and maybe did 4 hours of work a day while they were there.

I THOUGHT I’d return to Xerox however I’m with a competitor and couldn’t be happier. I NEVER expected to go with a competitor and never thought I’d think they were SUPERIOR to Xerox in several ways. The pay is prob comparable; vacation isn’t nearly as plentiful— I’m new here — but the people are nice and pleasant and help each other; we volunteer together and laugh throughout the day. It’s refreshing. If you’re not happy look at the options — be happy.

OP here.
@11OIwWyi-oxo - I don’t know. I bet they have some silly rule about contractors too. Talk about wanting to fail as a company. I can’t believe this is legal. I guess old Johnny V wants only people straight out of college who will only stay a year and then bail. They just don’t care any more.

What if you want to take an assignment through a contract agency? Is that banned as well? What are they afraid of, do you think? Sabotage? Surely does not speak well of C-Suite's opinion of qualified, ethical former employees. I feel insulted!
