Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Marvin’s Vision For Lowe’s

We are now a year and a half into Marvin’s term as president & CEO of Lowe’s. The direction and destination is now clear.

The customers are experiencing it, the remaining employees are feeling it. And thus far, the feedback is not positive. Unless you’re a corporate troll, or perhaps an Activist Investor Hedge Fund.

The stock price isn’t really reflecting the claimed improvements by Marvin. HD’s stock still remains more than double.

I have worked in several stores during my 15 years with Lowe’s. And for the first time I’m hearing the store management making negative comments about the changes! That shows the depth of the downhill slide the company is now on.

Everyone who visits this site knows Lowe’s is being run into the ground by a few very incompetent, highly overpaid individuals.

In our store many of the departments have one person all day, except millwork and flooring and plumbing where there are specialists. The ASM's dump most of the tasks on the supervisors and a lot of the supervisors are coverage in their departments just like department managers used to be.

Management has replaced the Lowe's cheer with some sort of cheer about defeating Home Depot, but it is nothing but a pipe dream. With Lowe's stock hovering at about $112 and Depot about $136 most days, it is nothing but wishful thinking. I question Lowe's commitment to anything, such as the pro customer (but they talk a good game). When Marvin took over, our emphasis changed from Amazon to Depot, although internet is the future and remember, last black Friday Lowes.com crashed and was down ALL DAY.

Locally, Stop & Shop pays their grandfathered employees time and a half for working Sundays and most of those employees only close 1x a week. All the things that Lowe's is known for, such as not pursuing pilferers and basically turning a blind eye to most shoplifters (cameras are mostly to spy on the employees) will haunt them when they focus so closely on the bottom line.

Years ago, a gentleman had a fence installed by Lowe's and the work was actually done by the third-party installer but it fell down and was not even and the guy could not get any satisfaction. The installer blamed the store and the store blamed the installer and he got nowhere. He set up a website called Lowessucks.com but instead of answering him and maybe resolving the issue, they sued him because they claimed he appropriated their intellectual property because the website had Lowe's in it. Not sure what happened to the issue but I think this is typical of bad installers and typical of the response to said issues. Maybe there are more of these that we just don't hear about.

Menards takes your employee purchases out of your paycheck. Want to buy a washer with your discount? Hope you have ramen at home for the next two weeks...

I drove out of my way, approx. 20 miles round trip, for a bag of concrete and sand. Many will say, that was foolish to waste the gas. I said before and I will say it again I will NEVER spend one thin dime at Blowes ever again. I would much rather give my money to someone that appreciates it's customer's and employee's. To me, they no longer exist, 95% of what I buy, I order on Amazon and the big stuff I will take a little drive. Screw them, they are truly the world's worst.

I worked for Lowe’s and stopped buying there when they took away the 10% over cost for employee purchases. After that I shopped exclusively at Menards. They had a better selection, lower prices, cleaner stores, nicer employees, and a discount on those lower prices that was 1% higher than my Lowe’s employee discount.
F ck you Marvin. If you can’t entice employees to shop where they work you are toast.
At the end of my 10 years at Lowe’s, I shopped Menards as another act of defiance against the ruining of Lowe’s by corporate control freaks.

Lowe’s is stupid they will let the competition walk all over them and then say dah we don’t know why we are losing market share . You cant lead from a standpoint of wait and see you have to be the first

Menards in my area pays $3/hr extra for working weekends, and has increased their weeks with 11% rebate. Seems to have them at least 50% of the time now. Definitely taking business from us and also after recent CCS insanity employees are interviewing there. Our store can’t get much leaner, last few hours open only 1 or 2 employees to help all customers. Not enough cashiers and ASM is running all over the place.

To the previous comment, have heard that Menards is now building their first stores in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

I never thought I would see the day Menards would outpace Lowe’s in opening new stores. They’re popping up all over our area. It’s like our stores now look like old Kmarts and Menards looks like new Walmart’s.
