In Feb'19, Barra gave the directive to lay off thousands of loyal high performing GM employees very close to retirement and most are still struggling to find jobs in a market where age discrimination runs rampant. When she became CEO she discarded any human compassion she might have once had for employees. She already showed that behavior again when she gave the order to drop the GM health plans for striking workers and forced them into an expensive COBRA plan. I hope that the hourly workers will fare better with the support of the UAW than the salaried workers did without a UAW behind them. GM salaried workers should really fight for unionization to protect their future livelihood as they get close to retirement.

While it’s true GM cut paying healthcare for the striking UAW workers, it’s also true that the payments for COBRA are going to be paid by the Union’s strike fund. If you dont work you don’t get paid or get the benefits. That’s the deal.
Back in there day there were salary UAW represented employees. That went away when GM and EDS were starting to hook up. GM and our government (republicans) have done a great job breaking the union. 40 years ago over 800k members for the big 3. Now today 150k members for the big 3. Its sad

Absolutely agree, but! No one has the stones to do it.
Sad but true.
Living in fear is the better option for salaried peeps.
