Not only does your brand not sustain itself, but now you’re perpetuating the myth that there is a collector market (after you over proliferated it for years). Your liberal placating of critics who will never stop criticizing Barbie, with non-commercially viable products like Day of the Dead, Star Wars and famous women dolls is not only financially dangerous but obvious that you’ve never cared to defend Barbie for what she is - a fashion doll. All the talk about girl empowerment isn’t new or novel, but Barbie never created it. The whole idea that she could be “anything” is simply a derivative of having a doll with different outfits - if you think it’s more than that, not only are you wrong but you’re delusional.
All these noise about collector dolls is admirable (kudos to Chidoni since no one thought she had any talent it could do anything) are a waste of resources. C’mon, 1,000 units of a $200 doll?! It’s not even worth the effort as it won’t move the needle on the stock - which is the only thing you people should be considering.
I sort of don’t blame you as you’re just following a rudderless leader. d—son spends his time working on the fringe concepts because he can’t do anything else. He’s the first Chief Operating Officer that doesn’t actually oversee operations. Why? It’s because he doesn’t know how but the previous region had to give some type of peacock title to attempt to justify his high salary. He’s not saving Mattel - he’s k–ling it - and you’re all letting him.
