You can always tell when you’re dealing with a rep from the legal team or upper management because no hourly wage employee is going to come on this site during his 10 hours undisturbed rest to vehemently defend the company. And the junior managers are all working 20 days at a time, so they’re even less likely. Which leaves upper management and the legal team

This site would be a threat to what?
If upper management is having this site monitored, it's because legal has informed them what they are doing is BAD for image. The gulity are always curious of what people think.
Well, if their employees are stupid I guess the HR team that hired all of them is incompetent and the upper management that oversees it all is incompetent as well. Funny how most of the posts on here are people complaining about the people that come to this site and yet here you are.

Let's pick this one apart.
- Even if UP had the magical ability to get IP addresses from thelayoff.com, they'd still need to go to an internet provider to figure out who it belonged to, which generally requires some kind of subpoena from law enforcement and which usually takes months to accomplish.
- The exception to #1 is if you're posting from work at UP, in which case they don't need an IP address because they can already monitor their own computers.
If UP upper management is on here, it's to laugh at how stupid the (mostly agreement) people they're about to lay off are.

Never underestimate how much up obsesses about its public image
If I had to guess, I would say that nobody with any real power within UP is concerned about what is said on this site. I think some of you are overestimating your own importance and the importance of this forum. The main reason that this site wouldn't be considered a "threat" is because very little that is said here has any credibility. It's mostly a place to come and vent.
There are people in UP who definitely care about what is said on sites like Glassdoor and Indeed, because both are credible sites with detailed reviews about the UP working culture, and UP has no control over what is said there. That's why on both sites there are (obviously) fake reviews written in vague language about how supposedly great it is to work at UP. Those fake reviews are being left partly to fluff the abysmal executive approval ratings, and partly to bury the reviews that are more detailed and critical.
If you really want to get the word out about how rotten UP is from the C-suite down, post it to Glassdoor and Indeed in detail.

Given the level of attention this thread is getting I’d say yes. It’s not just this website. Glassdoor and any other website where employees can share the truth about UP are a threat to their propaganda.
What exactly is meant by "UP upper management" anyway? There are so many layers of managerial bureaucracy and inflated titles in UP corporate culture that I can't tell where upper management begins. By some measures it could be 40% of the remaining UP workforce. Does the OP really think that many people care enough about his uninformed rants to consider them or anything else on this site a threat?
No they don’t care at all. In fact if you don’t believe how little they care just look at all the messages they post talking about how little they care. One of them posted the same message twice just so we’d be clear how little they care. Just to be clear they don’t care but they’re going to keep commenting and posting how little they care. Lol.

I promise you UP upper management doesn't even begin to care about what disgruntled employees (current and former) post on this site.
I think they care plenty about their image and PR and anything that spreads the truth and dispels misinformation is something they don’t want.
When we stop seeing the propaganda stories on UP online and the employee appreciation locomotive and all their other nonsense, then maybe I’ll believe they don’t care what people think.

If they're checking for anything, it would probably be posts containing threats of violence or sensitive personal information. Beyond that there's probably nobody who cares.

Why not? Some of us are thankful for a job and not to be working for NS. Over 22 years in. 1 to go. Have saved big time off of our great income, own 2 homes, paid for, and leaving for our winter home in Fl in exactly 376 days! Thanks UP for a great career.
