Anyone else have their hours cut? Our Store Manager just showed us an article about a strategy to save $500 million in expenses and explained that hours have been cut across the store to achieve the savings requirements. We had a ton of open shifts available for us to pickup and they have all been removed. We are being asked to leave early, take our full hour meal breaks, and not fill when someone calls in sick. This is leaving too few people in our store to take care of our customers and putting a lot of work on those of us who are still working. Curious to see if this is just in our store or if these cuts are happening everywhere?

Keep the sales prevention teams out of the stores. The North Central
Regional team made their rounds . Let's see we have 2 senior members for every associate. Yes that seems about right . Let's have them come in and harass us about events , AUR and top performers.
I ring up what the customer hands me . We have 3 associates ringing on the whole floor.
Sell thanks for sharing ,round up . Tell me about your event today? What event?I am the only one here. Are you stupid lady ? You mother North Central are living in Disneyland . Pick up something off the floor . Send some help to the stores. Don't make us pretend we are having a good time here.#macysnorthcentralsucks
Hired for the holidays and expecting a lot of hours, have only had one shift for the last two weeks and was just told that there are no hours for next week. Why hire people if you don't have any work for them? I passed up two other job offers for working here, turned in my notice today when I got an offer from Belk when I called them back.
The other day I retrieved a BOPS pick from a box in the dock. Wrapped in plastic :)
Wow,Wow WOW!!!! After reading these posts I am blown away! What are your leaders doing? Have you lost your mind???? Using a corporate Jet for personal use and travel ban the entire company? Leave stock on a loading dock ALL WEEKEND! I think your CEO needs to be replaced before the whole company goes under. Looks like this clown has dropped stock value in the hole!

Target quietly eliminated overnight and backroom shifts in some of its stores across the country. The workers in those positions were given the option to switch to daytime shifts.
Business Insider spoke with five Target employees in locations across the US. Most said that the elimination of overnight and backroom shifts has meant that they are picking up the slack and completing more tasks than they can reasonably handle in their shifts to make up for it.
One employee at a store in the Washington, DC, area said the changes worsened what was already a stressful environment. "There have been several times in the last nine months that I've almost hit a panic attack," he said.
Not enough colleagues to process today's truck due to expense cuts–fixed budget. Large quantity of new, fresh receipts left in plastic. Will stay on the dock ALL WEEKEND during the final days of the VIP sale. Penny wise pound foolish. The chief executives need to understand fresh receipts and the selling team (1 associate) will drive the business. Costs savings must come from the bloated corporate level. Please do not cut at the store level, especially the g 150 stores. What a big mistake!
True regular hours over the holidays and close the stores on Thanksgiving day just open the stores on Black Friday. 🤔
Why dont Macy's have just regular hours over the holidays? NO ONE is shopping at 7a.m. or at 10p.m. If they need to cut back on hours ..keep the stores regular hours..
They found that if they close a store, the online traffic in that location goes down as well. People aren’t as likely to shop online if there isn’t a physical store nearby. Seems like an easy solution: make the store significantly smaller and mainly provide services, like Nordstrom has done.
LOL hopefully this is fake news. As a former SM and current customer, there is not enough associates on the floor as it is. I would much rather go to a store with a smaller selection cause I know the experience will be better instead of walking around looking for someone to take my money. as bad as it sounds, close more struggling stores so you can reinvest in stores that are borderline working to successful stores and restrengthen the now pathetic brand
How much money was spent at the Jersey City proto type...including travel? How much money was wasted at the Jersey City proto type...including travel? Tomorrow, will I clean out fitting rooms, wait on customers, or help with fulfillment...I can only choose one, because I am the only colleague in the entire home store. Maybe, I will just call in sick!
Hired to work on the merchandise team as a flex person a few weeks ago with the promise of a ton of hours and work through Christmas, just found out that there are zero hours for flex workers next week. Already calling back Khols who called after I was hired by Macy's to see if they still have the position open.
Jeff, do you have the courage to respond to this???? Why not put out a memo to the stores and instruct no further food or beverage purchase for your visits. How about you and Hal serving the store you are visiting. ALL ASSOCIATES not just management.
100% right! No limit for them. We get $.35 raise and they get 18% on top of their millions. Well said about the waste that goes on. Colleagues work hard and give their all and get nothing in return. Shame on all of them for not caring about the people that make the customers want to come to Macy's. Not a way to inspire loyalty for sure.
Party in Vegas, party in Reno, unbelievable dinners and food catered in for regional and NY visits with Jeff and Hal, all the while cutting expenses at store level. Why do these millionaires need to have food and drink purchased for them and paid for by the company when we can't even afford to give the stores the hours needed to take care of our customers. It is sad to see how much money is spent to curry favor during these visits with the sc-aps and left overs given to the hourly team members who barely earn a living wage. It is an embarrassment and shameful for leaders and colleagues alike who simply want to focus on fixing our business and are challenged to come up with expense saving ideas.
How about senior leaders buy their own meals within the regular per diem rates and stop these wasteful ego orgies and spend the money instead on taking care of our customers and store associates.

Money well spent. Rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.
What does not make any sense.....they spend how much money fo their party in Vegas and then come up with this c-ap??? I mean really! Granted different expense lines here but if you are asking stores to work within such drastic guidelines you should demonstrate the same action.
We are backed up two trucks on our dock and had to cut hours because we were 10 hours over the new savings budget. We were told we had to absorb the work which is pretty funny. Been here before, we will hold with the hours cuts until someone in the office begins asking why stuff we received three weeks ago isn't showing any sales. This won't last that long, just wait until you have a visit and someone from the regional or NY office walks in and finds five trucks not processed, but it will take twice as many hours to dig out. Penny wise, pound foolish.
"Yeah, and the CTO is laying off key folks at Macy's Technology/.com too."
CTO is following his past Home Depot bleed dry bare minimum tech excellence strategy. With the current tech strategy posture only thing that can be best hoped for is keeping-the-lights-on.
"Macys will be online only soon at this rate."
Yeah, and the CTO is laying off key folks at Macy's Technology/.com too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Cyber Monday isn't a big cluster you-know-what this year.
open hours were cut at all stores except herald square. also, christmas hiring has been pushed back a week. this is the company's way of trying to save money....maybe they should cut above store level.
Not looking good for Q3 ! Not making sales plan in many stores. Anyone out there making plan???? Or even LY figures for that matter.
Big "D" your leaving! where are you going??? You have offered some valuable insight to the posts on this site. Thank you for your input. Sad to see you go..........
Going to Belk with everyone else from the NW?
If the Q2 earnings miss was due to excess inventory and high markdowns, it doesn't look good for Q3 if the expense saving plan is keeping stores from placing new fall goods, seems like a recipe for a repeat.
We just finished a Union vote a couple of weeks ago and wish we would have had this information then, we only lost by a handful of votes and had we known about these hours cuts going into the hardest time of year for support people, we would not have voted like we did.
Cut more people in the stores ... Great Plan Macys. Macys will be online only soon at this rate.
Oh, but keep in mind Jeff and Hal got raises!!
If the company is serious about saving money, eliminate unneeded travel and eliminate RDDs. This simple reduction would eliminate the staffing expense required to make 3 or 4 stores look stellar along with the travel expenses for 10 plus executives. This is just a thought!
Higher ups should be the ones getting pay cuts. They don’t need a salary of $13 million! You can see all the exec’s salaries online btw.
Odd , the news articles do not mention anything about staffing .

How stupid. The 500 million in cuts should happen at the corporate level where our customers won't see these cuts. Does not anyone understand that the further eroding of our guests experience in the stores will have a negative effect on sales?

Are you sure there's going to be a monday truck??
It just happen to our store. This weekend alot of open shifts remove.
Happening is our store too, not enough people to unload trucks this week and we have cartons up to the ceiling and no one to put new goods on the floor. Normally we would have called in extra people or worked longer shifts, but we were told that payroll savings comes first, don't know where they expect us to put Monday's truck. Seems like a good day to take a sick day.
