Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Eliminating Assistant and Department Managers

The phasing out is going to start in October. Department Managers will be a thing of the past and Assistants will be eliminated and eligible to reapply for the same position with a new title. I guess this is how Walmart thinks they can get out of paying severance. Pretty sure this is illegal but don't know where to go.

I hardly ever shop there anymore. It saddens me to see what they have become. My shopping is now done at their competitors. They have gotten too c—y and think they are indispensable. Well Dollar General is knocking and they are expanding all over. DG is popping up all over in small towns and adding groceries.

Pharmacy is getting shredded to the bone. I can barely manage my pharmacy anymore. I just dont have enough techs or pharmacists to crank out 2000 Rx's a week and handle then clientele ....etc. now when flu shots hit it will be madness. They are pushing out the pharmacists because we are their most highly paid group at this point with six figure salaries.... those they could not performance or let go.....are now so uncomfortable.....we will break and quit eventually. The idea is to consistently replace 70$/hr pharmacists with the current market rate pharmacists at roughly 50–55$/Hr.... its very simple and being done now....everyone is targeted because if you were hired before 2018 as a pharmacist, you are getting top wages.... no longer offered... and i helped these greedy slimebuckets make a ton of money, My pharmacy is 2nd in profit and other metrics, and how do i get rewarded? by by taking away my help to the point i cant operate.... thanks wal-mart! your the best..... shoulda just paid me severance and let me go....

@4umi - the "forfeiting unemployment" part is bit much. In some circumstances that might be the case, but the reality is that in many (most?) cases it will be easy to make a case - the hours changed; the job requirements changed, and so on. So it may require a little more work on the associates part to get it, but to make a blanket statement like you did is not reality.

Definitely not fake news but only the FE and Fresh areas are affected in Oct. They still have to get through the holidays so they will implement the rest after. But they will do so. The "lucky" survivors will have it rough and the rest will be offered hourly jobs. If you decline them, you forfeit unemployment benefits as you had an option and did not take it. This is well thought out but I cannot see the long term success. We struggle now and each day the sales floor gets thinner and thinner so the ASMs are doing more and more. What happen when they are no longer there? The "lucky" ones will own it all.

@4huq - It all looks good on paper and are good talking points for new hires. Unfortunately, the reality is you need to be at the beck and call of WM with an availability of 24/7/365 to even get close to 40 hours.

I love how walmart changed their motto to this is that place. They tell people you can pick your schedule but then if you do they cut your hours because that's not when walmart needs you there.

It's not illegal but certainly immoral and unethical.

Walmart is a joke you work fu our a– off, at work early leave late, just to watch others do nothing all day, every day,and they are the ones being rewarded. Hard Work, Morals, and Respect is a thing of the past at Wally world. I have a Degree in Business Management but my Manager expressed to meet that it is nothing here. (Unless you're his buddy) what a Crock.

Yes. The roll out of the new GWP is happening for us in October. I have been the ASM over the front and have an awesome front end. Since I took over the scores have skyrocketed and everyone is very happy and even the MM has said on numerous visits that this is the best in his district.
But I was told not to even try to apply for the new Coach position as I was “too old” as it was a two year commitment.
This is how hard d work and dedication is rewarded here.

In the absence of a contract, there is usually no legal requirement to provide severance or even notice for an employee whose position is eliminated. The WARN Act requires a 60-day notice before a mass layoff, but the number of job eliminations per store in a restructure like this is nowhere near enough to meet the definition of a mass layoff. GWP is a sh–ty idea on a number of levels, but it’s not illegal.

In case you all have not noticed, the also did it with mm, rm, also. They are getting rid of ppl who seem to think their job means they can camp in a spot for 20 years, not helping others. Or pushing obw, when they are not doin one. They are tired of ppl camping, in a position, not working as a team. We all have the same job, why it has to be so hard, I don't understand.

They aren't doing anything wrong, they did the same thing with PC and tc renamed the position they all got good severance that they chose to take. It is a culture change. If you choose not to take it them move on stop bad mouthing

"Pretty sure this is illegal"...

Good thing you aren't a lawyer. As long as they are giving enough notice under the WARN act severance is NOT required.
