We all know Marvin’s all about saving a buck or several million if he can. Unfortunately the way he does it affects customer service, k–ls morale, and, greatly affects employees.
What if Lowe’s started closing earlier? Currently we are open until 10 during standard time (non daylight saving time). If Lowe’s were to close an hour early starting with Labor Day instead of the start of daylight savings time (November 3, 2019). This year there are 63 days between Labor Day and the start of daylight savings time.
63 days times 1 hour times 5 employees (average number I see leave when I close) is 315 hours saved per store.
315 hours times 1,800 stores is 567,000 hours saved for all of Lowe’s.
567,000 hours times $10.00 is $5,670,000 (5 million, 6 hundred 70 thousand) saved just by closing an hour earlier. Employees would start an hour earlier and could provide additional customer service.
My store is already a ghost town after 9pm, the garden center closes at 8pm; sounds like a plan to me.
