Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Lowe’s treatment

A few months ago I had an interview with a different company, it was an initial interview and didn’t matter much. When they wanted me back for an2nd interview I had it scheduled, things in life happened, we had a tornado and then a flood that affected my entire city. Fast forward 2 weeks they called me and asked how things were around my house, if I needed anything. I thought “how awesome is that company?” They still wanted to do my 2nd interview, of course I accepted. 2 days before my interview was scheduled I had 2 deaths in my family. I had to cancel the interview yet again, instead of giving up on me they sent me a condolence card with a $50 gift card to take my family out to eat and help with the healing. I called them the next day and told them “if they needed to move on I completely understand, but I was still interested”. They told me “you are a good fit for the position we want to give you all the time you need, contact us in 2 weeks and we will continue” I didn’t know how to respond to this, a company that I’ve never worked for, don’t know me at all and they are taking care of me better than my current job, Lowe’s was very stern on if I didn’t have a death certificate they wouldn’t pay me bereavement............................16+ years at Lowe’s and maybe 7-10 call ins total and that’s how I was treated. It took me far too long to see how crooked this company is.

Cintas. I’m going to be a Route Sales Representative. Training pay is rough, I think selling my stocks I can make it until I get a route.

I was recently affected by the latest layoffs
Instead of calling me to come in for an important meeting I was called the night before and begged me to come in and help out on my day off because he said they were swamped and really needed my help
The next morning around 11 I got a call and the ASM said he needed to read me something
I understand trying have me onsite to share the pink slip information to me but why lie with such a bogus story. Be honest better yet why give no notice how about treating employees... people with some respect and give an actual notice of termination. You expect me to give notice if I’m quitting how about the same courtesy in return
Sorry Company

mind if i ask what company youre going to work for?

i understand if you dont want to say. or what position/job you are taking with this new company? just wondering what possibilities would be out there for a fellow back end manager.

Thank you for letting everyone know that there is life without Lowe's.
Lowe's is never going to be a employee friendly place again! You are replaceable to them and mean nothing except for what you can do for them.
Congrats, hope you transition well into the new job where they apparently have compassion for other human beings.

It’s not the company, it’s the fellow employees that I don’t want to screw over. I am the backend manager and we don’t have night stockers so I am relied upon to be a stocker and I can’t leave them high and dry.

Lowe’s is a garbage company & employer.

Ellison is the Icing On The Cake!!!

“From Good To Garbage”

In 1 year he’s turned a tolerable situation to Miserable!!!

Lowes only supports you if you are part of their clique. If you aren't on board thet shun you. Once I said no to asm I was blackballed. I been gone a year and thank god. Would have lost my spiffs anyway which is what kept me there. You'll be much happier away

They just told me they’d prefer me to give a 3 week notice so I am not hurting my former employer. I feel like I just stumbled into a jackpot lottery. Resignation just turned in. Now let’s see if my store manager will honor it.

a decent company that runs on ethics will probably respect you more for giving a 2 weeks notice to your current employer —shows them you have a code of ethics as well no matter the situation. i also live by the never burn the bridge motto. it may not be that youll ever go back to lowes but rather the people inside lowes could at some point cross paths with you again or there could be some other tie where someone knows someone. do it all by the book and itll all be a distant memory soon enough. i can actually cite two situations – one where i personally crossed paths with someone again and my reputation ensures it not to be a problem and another where because someone handled their last days at an employer poorly they lost out on a job they were about to take. turned out the new employer was neighbors with someone they currently worked for.

Hardest decision right now is 2 weeks notice or not.

my bro-in-law works for a big well drilling company. his boss is a lot like the company in your post. hes kind to his employees literally to a fault. its all about the employees for him and their well being. pays them a great wage, they all have the newest iphone, all have benefits etc. etc. and his business has grown and thrived because he has created such a great environment for the employees that they go out and work hard. they continue to expand operations into all things "water" and my bro-in-law attributes the success directly to how awesome the owner is and his vision for how a business should run.

exactly! big or small company, you can still treat people with kindness and respect. i often here
"lowes" is a terrible place. problem is lowes is just made up of people...people are choosing to do these things. lowes is just a business. Compare marvins latest podcast to the messages of someone like fred rogers (mr rogers neighborhood)—both professing christians, or the company you interviewed with and tell me which mindset will get the most out of your employees. kindness, compassion, empathy or brutal dictatorship.

i hope you took that job if it were offered to you.
