Ricoh again offering another round of voluntary separation
Is this true? Who are the lucky winners?
I was whacked after over 21 years. I’m over 55 now. Was told no “rehire” from someone on the inside but HR claimed ignorance on my exit call. I recorded it. I asked outright and they told me once the world opens I can apply. Thought my manager had my back. My manager went along with the script and to make it worse....they were hammering out emails as HR spoke to me.
Do you think they could show an ounce of respect?
Not hearing a lot about people accepting the separation agreement. If only a few people took the offer, will layoffs be far behind?
Don’t post names, not allowed here.
The actual retirement package says you can't be rehired? Wow. Anyone brave enough to post the verbiage? Our severance had a noncompete clause of sorts, but didn't actually have the no-rehire thing. I heard about it from people who had gotten the memo.
The document in the package explicitly states that you will not be rehired, ever, by Ricoh. The whole idea behind these “separations” is to save the company money. If they moved people over to new positions they would still be paying their salaries and benefits. They would much rather pay a twenty-something 1/3 your salary and give them two weeks vacation as opposed to your four or five weeks.
Regarding the post from Not an id–t who posted: "They also banned rehiring of any former employees. Your application will be flagged as instant reject." Thank you. That confirms my suspicions. I know a few people who applied for other jobs within Ricoh after they were laid off. They were absolutely qualified for the other positions, but were told, "We went with someone else." Best of luck to those of you who end up leaving—whether voluntarily or not—as you'll be done with Ricoh for good no matter what.
Is what they're doing legal? Laying off employees over 50 and sending out emails that they can't be rehired and they only want younger workers? Doesn't sound right to me. Another question, have any Japanese employees been let go in the US? Or only Americans?
And so it begins again, even with the last CIO axed. You all know what this means next, right? Round of layoffs come spring. They do this so the age discrimination they openly practice isn’t so obvious on paper, “technically.” But they totally do it. The executive VP of HR has sent managers memos saying they want newer and fresher talent (read: younger). They also banned rehiring of any former employees. Your application will be flagged as instant reject.
Can confirm, it looks like it's going to be for people in their late 50's this year.
Package is a paycheck for every year you worked for Ricoh. If you worked 23 years, you get 23 paychecks every two weeks, just like you were still working there.
Ricoh won't be paying for your benefits, vacation, sick days, floaters anymore, so that's cost savings. After your last check is when they reap the maximum savings of your dismissal. Of course by then, their customers will be rolling their POS machines into the streets since the Home Depot parking lot tech won't know squat on how to fix them. Imagine. Change.
What kind of job did people here go into that was a technician? Trying to figure what to do next. Half of the team I’m on got the severance package. So if a lot of them take it it’s going to be terrible for the rest of us.
Half our team and two managers from our area (no more office, it closed down last year) received their packages today. Wow!!! The new cheaper, young guys coming in are gonna be in for a rude awakening when they're pushed to do 10 calls per day on machines they're not trained on or have any copier experiences on. A few have already quit after 6 months of just working with desktop printers.
Looks like Ricoh is cutting their losses now and shutting down their copier service division. Pretty sad they can't manage to service their own product they manufacture. Horrible leadership up top.
Some offices have high percentages of employees over 55. This is gonna hurt more than the last one. Of course, not everyone will accept, but I'd hate to be left behind to pick up the pieces. Been there, done that.
Any details of what this package looks like.
It's true, out here in the San Francisco Bay Area, our color production team just blew up. 6 out of 10 recieved the email this morning from DV (HR).
Houston technicians, 55yrs and older
I have not heard anything about this but would seriously consider the offer if presented to me.
It's true. I know of at least four people who have received the email. Some under 59 years old.
I'd take mine in a second if offered.
